What special survival foods has anyone looked into ? I've got a full pantry of canned goods, enough for a month or 2. But I'm looking into long shelf life items that can be kept on hand that are tasty, as well as being easy to prepare in an emergency situation (after a hurricane/tornado/earthquake) I have tried Mountain House brand spagettie (sp?) and beef & mac, A beef patty MRE (tasted like a salisbury steak, yum) and a bar-b-q chicken with beans & potatos MRE. Still have s chicken stew and spagetti MRE to test. Got one each of MAINSTAY, MAYDAY, and DATREX emergency food bars. Liked the MAINSTAY, tasted like a lemony cake. got better the longer you ate it. Haven't tried the other 2 yet. ALso have tried and like BRIDGFORD FOODS rady to eat sandwiches in bar-b-q pork, Italian , and bacon . Got a bucket of dehydrated survial dinners, haven't tried yet. And a couple of # 10 cans of dehydrated strawberries, onions, and spagetti ( you can tell I like spagetti by now I guess) .
Have ordered but not received yet to try Margarine Powder , MyChoiceT Scrambled Egg Mix, Dehydrated Peas and Carrot Blend, dehydrated Banana Slices, dehydrated Potato Flakes, Mountain House Pro-Pak Beef Stew and Mountain House Pro-Pak Beef Stroganof.
Any emergency food you have tried and liked to reccomend ?

Look into Cold Weather MREs, theyre freeze dried main meals and have a lot more calories than the normal ones. I personally like them better, and Ive spent the better part of the last month eating them in cold weather. The Spaghetti MREs arent bad, never heard of a chicken stew MRE, but Beef Stew is pretty good, Sloppy Joe and Chili mac are gold in the field, Beef Ravioli is bomb, the Southwest black bean chili is good too.

Jerky doesn't keep infinitely but is quite good to keep in your pack
and if you're going to actively hunt in the ZPAW you can make your own if you can keep a fire burning for several hours safely

i was planning a month long hiking trip that got canceled. was close to ready for it, so i have almost a month's worth of freeze dried camp meals, MREs (complete and partial), and various other goodies.
could probably pull off at least 1600 calories a day for the better part of three weeks, i'd guess.
i also have a decent amount of canned and dry goods, and a small stash of pemican (home made) and emergency rations.
confidence is high

I own a convenience store so if I can protect it from looters and zombies I should be good for a little while. It's mostly snack items but we have a small deli which the items are frozen so assuming that power stays on I can cook.

if it's your store, start stocking items that would sell but also be good to have if you had to hold out there. can chili, soup, vienna suasages, spam, pork & beans....
and do you have bars on the windows, or a roll down metal door when you close ?

Unfortunately I don't have bars or shutters over the windows. And they're pretty big windows and I've got 3 of them. Lol. 2 of them are blocked by soda coolers and a display stand and the third one can also be blocked off. Not sure how those will hold up though. lol.

buy several sheets of plwood and 2X4 s now, and keep them in the storeroom with a tool box.
Oh, I am taste testing DATREX emergency ration bars today. Kinda tasty, if very crumbly. Reminds of a oatmeal cookie.

Before you get any #10 cans of pre-made entrees, try it as an individual pouch meal if it is available. I have found that no company ever gets pre-made chili or lasagna right.
If you plan to bug-in get regular groccery items (canned goods and dried goods like pasta, just add water pancake mix,etc..) and the #10 cans of dehydrated and freeze-drieds. Pre-made entrees are good but after awhile you will want home cooking so getting the basics in #10 cans works.
If your plan is primarily to bug-out, then go with freeze-dried pouches, MREs, and canned goods like no water needed soups, stews and pastas.
And remember to get water filters and know how to use them. For long term learn to garden and home can (look up Tattler Lids).

The building is made of cinder blocks (?) so nailing stuff to it would be pretty hard to do. Installing pull down shutters would be a better idea.
