What is your plan to survive the zombie apocalypse? Mine is..
I will barricade my house and get everything ready inside, I will have each house member on a certain duty, next I will fill all my sinks and bathtubs up with water because we will need as much water as we can because eventually the water might be shut off or contaminated. I will raid every store I can and I will get all the food and weapons I can (I already have some weapons at my house). I stake out in my house with anyone who is with me and we will escape when all the fuss of people trying to leave the city is over. I will procede to an island on a lake in the town next to mine, we will clear out everything living on the island and we will relocate there, for the warmer months we will plant food and survive off that for as long as possible for the colder months we will have food stored away from the stores we raided. We will have brought plenty of entertainment because remember you will need to keep yourself occupied throughout the days. We will keep watch over the lake surrounding our island and we will always be alert.

Well I'm pretty much sorted. Got a generator and ~1000 gallons of fuel. Live in the country far enough from any city that there wont be hordes, all the surrounding areas have fences (fields for crop or livestock) which I imagine would funnel the zombies away nicely, (I guess they would take the path of least resistance) can simply open up gates or close them to change the flow. We have our own fresh water well which won'r run out (running water throughout, hot water until the fuel runs out).

I live on a farm although we don't have any livestock right now but we have chickens and 2 green houses as well as a few vegetable patches. Not sure how long we can survive, our only limiting factor is food, we grow a lot of what we eat and we always have at least 40kg of rice which we cycle through (we eat a lot of rice).

House is old and made of solid stone so is the barn, seal up the windows and it's basically a fort. Lots of exits from second floor and ways to get in and out using ropes and ladders that zombies won't be able to get through.

Our biggest problem is this: The geny makes a ton of noise + being the only house with lights for miles around might not be a good idea, also being the only house with visibly growing food will probably attract people with bigger numbers and bigger guns. I'm not worried about the zombies, our biggest problem come any major disaster will be other people. We would always be willing to help people out, but if someone wants what we have we don't really have the means to defend ourselves against a well armed group.

Also a side note: I live in Northern Ireland, if anyone is interested in a fort you can buy one.

That place is about 9 miles from where I live right now, they were designed as fortresses to survive being put under siege during the riots, they are basically the perfect zombie survival forts. There is talk of it being sold for £150,000

Well the thing about Ireland, the north especially is that there are no "major" urban areas. Belfast is the largest city in the north and the city and all the surrounding areas of Belfast contain ~1 million people, but they are spread out over quite a large area, and outside of that area in all the rest of Northern Ireland is only 700k or so people, the next largest city is Londonderry/Derry with all its surrounding areas containing only ~100k.

But the best thing about Ireland apart from the low population is that the population centres are for the most part still based on where the old clans made settlements, and for the most part that was decided by natural barriers such as rivers, lakes and mountains which are exactly the kind of things that I imagine would funnel zombies one way or another which would make certain areas more or less dangerous and go some way to containing the largest populations within certain areas.

Also because the clans were constantly fighting each other they built castles EVERYWHERE. Many of which are still standing, there are literally hundreds of castles dotting the country side, though many of them are in disrepair the main structures are still solid and they are designed to keep zombies (or armies on foot) out. Often built on hills and easily defensible areas with a wide field of view, also with handy murder holes.

Also random trivia, if any of you are watching Game of thrones, much of that was filmed in Northern Ireland and some of the castles are actual castles in Northern Ireland.

This is a bit off topic and more information than you probably want, but there you go anyway :P

"You can never have too many guns, yo-yos, or crayons"- Mrs. Hotlead speaking to my Nephew Easter morning.

"Yeah, your 9mm "might" expand when it hits the target, but my .45 sure as hell won't shrink."- Me argueing with my Brother about pistol calibers.

BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG-Pinnnnggg,......clank....clank

I never knew Ireland was such a lightly populated country. However I could see an influx of refugees coming to the country for exactly that reason. I realize you would probably hate the idea but with the population density and proximity of England I could see a lot of people jumping in their boats hoping to set up in the wilderness of your country.

Perhaps you could build a building around a building to hide the sound of your generator running.
