I saw the commercial and thought it might be interesting. I didn't know when it was on though.

It was pretty good. I foresee the hippie community from the show ending up being slaves on their own land.

For those that didn't watch: They were asked about defending themselves. One of them replied that if anyone showed up to do them harm, they would just have a feast in their honor and show them they are helpful good people. And that the bandits will then leave them alone. And if they don't then he would just poison their food or slit their throats in their sleep.

I and my wife figure the bandits will just roll up (because now this group is known and that they won't defend themselves), round them up, and turn them into slaves. The bandits will feast on their food while the hippies are used as slaves on their land and fed scraps. During their follow-up they said they talked about guns and defending themselves and decided that their way is the best and that guns are not needed.

 I was thinking the same thing about the hippies, they had a nice setup but would get taken over by looters and such.

The other group that "tested" their container house with "small arms" fire, which was a 22 rifle was funny, other than that part they had some good stuff going on.

The girl that was going to hike to her bug out car outside of Houston and drive to Mexico would end up being a sex slave or something worse... :scared:

At least the girl in Houston was honest about what could happen to her and what she's capable of doing. She was constantly bettering herself and only limited by her financial means. She did seem a bit odd and dense on some things though.

I wasn't too impressed with the guy in LA. Sure, he knows a lot about plants in that area, but how well does he knows plants outside of Southern California? How does he plan to eat anything other than plants? He showed no skills in hunting and having no guns could hurt him if confronted by hostile humans.

As far as the a couple living in the storage containers, I don't know why they are keeping a lot of food in glass jars if they're expecting earthquakes and stuff.

Good point with the earthquakes. They were the most well rounded I think. guns, food, energy, water and people who were trained.

Article from the woman in Houston and how Nat Geo deliberately edited her to make her look like a nutjob. The producer offered her $1000 to shoot her cat on camera, which she turned down.

Interesting follow up. :blowingsmoke:
I doubt that they offered her money to kill her cat on film, for one, it's illegal....

Mexico is a very bad place to be right now. You can hear gun battles just across the border in Tijuana here. People disapear down there all the time. Mexico is like the Titty Twister from Dusk to Dawn. You go in but its a strong possibility you wont come out. It used to be a great place to party, but no one goes down there anymore. four teenagers from here ( they were illegal in the US ) were just gunned down in TJ on the street, its not even news anymore here. Im not afraid of earthquakes, I would be more worried about tornados if I lived away from the west coast.

I'm not sure how much of that I believe. She sounded like a space cadet on the show and I doubt there was too much dubious editing. Major LOL at her running on the park benches though haha.

Here is another Doomsday Prepper saying that the producers kept pushing him to sound like a nutjob.

I don't know how much pushing needs to be done, after all, you have to be somewhat nuts to do the things that these "doomsday" preppers are doing.

It's one thing to have "some" supplies to last out a storm or power outage but who really needs to store 20 years worth of food for a dozen people? Posted Image That's a sickness.

But it is a show after all, which has an agenda.

This show gets discussed quit a bit on survival and prepper forums. And it is not well liked. Reason being is it is obvious that it is meant to make the average prepper look like a complete nut job. So they picked people for the show that fit that view and as has been said multiple times now by ones that were on it, it is scripted to fulfill that view. There are unwritten rules with prepping (as in no one has sat down and officially written them down but they are accepted by most). One of the biggest ones is OPSEC (operational security). Which means keep as low of a profile as possible and do not let people know how much and what you have. Because of that anyone that is on one of these shows is looked down on afterwards by other preppers. Another one is rotate your supplies. If it is fuel you use it before the end of its storage life. If it is food you eat it before it goes bad/rancid. This forces you to also learn how best to use what you store. The 20 years worth of food for a dozen people is a rarity, I personally have never heard of anyone storing that much.

James Wesley Rawles was interviewed recently on the radio and was asked "How much food do you store". His reply was that "I store 3 years of food for my family but that I don't look at it in those terms. I look at it as storing 1 years worth of food for 3 families". So it is all in how you look at it. I have X years of food for my self, or Y years of food for my immediate family, or Z months of for my extended family and friends.

In the end you have to realize Doomsday Preppers is propaganda meant to make preppers/survivalists look bad. You can see that in the name alone. I have heard that it was recommended by Practical Preppers (the ones that do the evals of how well someone is prepared) that the show be named American Preppers, but Nat Geo didn't like the name.

Rawles is the last person I'll ever look to as a voice of reason for what thats worth.

Anyone see last night's ep? I liked the guy in Maine, although I didn't agree with his reason for prepping. I think he does need a gun or two even if ammo may be obsolete.

I did think it was neat about the guy building a survival condo out of the silo, but the experts were right that there need to be inhabitants there that have skills such as medical, engineering, etc.

The martial law girl is extremely prepped and only getting better by learning new skills. I don't think it helps her that she lives in an apartment in a big city. She should also learn some outdoor survival skills.

did you see the woman last week who practically gave her address so that theives could come get her $50,000 worth of supplies ? She is planning to survive in place at her home. They showed the exterior of her house, and mentioned her city (I think it was Salt Lake City ?) THEN they showed that when she looked out her window the state capitol was just a block or so away. All anyone wanting to rob her has to do is screen capture the scene of her house, drive around the capitol building for a few blocks and you got her.

Personally, I don't find Bunkers as interesting as Preppers. Maybe I would be more interested if I had the money to buy one of those bunkers. For those that haven't seen it, think of it as Doomsday Preppers meets American Restoration from the History channel.
