"Joe Weber is an anthropologist who takes his son on a trip to the New England town of Salem's Lot unaware that it is populated by vampires. When the inhabitants reveal their secret, they ask Joe to write a bible for them"

Even though it's named as a sequel it is really a stand alone movie which is set in the same town as the original Salem's Lot & that's about all it has to do with it.

I love the original mini series but i do find it a little slow at parts but it is more about atmosphere than gore, the same can't be said for this as the gore starts in the first five minutes. Some people say the effects are crap but i liked them but they are very 80s.

As much as i enjoyed it i think they could have made the head vampire better, when compared with the mini series it's night & day

I watched this again back in October and still enjoyed it more than I expected. It's a good movie. But I agree the head vampire make-up could have been much better.

I am a big fan of the original Salem's Lot. I remember watching it at my aunt & uncle's house when I was a young teenager and it was a really well done, creepy mini series. It does not have a lot of gore in it, since Salem's Lot was made for tv, but the scare factor is certainly there. Return to Salem's Lot, in my humble opinion, was terrible and totally unwarranted! My hope is to get the original on DVD to add to my collection, that is if I can find it for a good price. Before I forget, the remake of Salem's Lot, which starred Rob Lowe, also was not necessary!! Did not care for it at all. And one last point about Salem's Lot to any of you who enjoyed the original with David Soul, do yourselves a favor and read the novel if you haven't already. It is one of King's best.
