The old thread got locked for being too off topic after fourteen months of inactivity, so let's start a new one!

We wanna know what your choice of sidearm would be, you can tell us what you'd like, but telling us what you have is better, and as always..............

PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!!

Well, some of us are a whole lot older than that. I think Bob might have actually fought in the civil war

Beretta 96 would be my go-to.

A little off topic, but I have to ask the opinion of you guys around here. I've lurked in these forums enough to know that there are some 1911 enthusiasts here. I'm looking to get one myself and am a little lost on what manufacturers to look to. I know springfield is a good route, but what about para, armscor/rockisland, etc. Can anyone give me some insight?

the first thing you want to do is determine what price point you can afford or want to afford. after that you can start to look at the pistol brands and models. i have had good luck with the springfield champion loaded models. my current favorite is the Dan Wesson CBOB which is actually made by CZ and is a fine quality pistol. i feel that they are the best 1911 that you can buy before you get into the customs. I've also had folks offer me more than double what i paid for it.

dude, if you ever shoot me with a .25, and i find out about it, i'll kick yer ass!

I'd like to keep it in the neighborhood of 700 at the highest, which I realize takes me out of most Dan Wesson, S&W, Colt and Kimber territory. At least for my first 1911, I'd like to keep it in that area.

$700 will get you an SAI milspec or GI, and a belt rig, maintainence stuff, and a few good magazines. It will also get you a Rock Island Armory 1911, all the stuff above, and 1/2 a case of ammo.

I have no first hand experience with RIA, but those that do, say they are pretty good guns for the money.

I got my Springfield mil-spec for about $650. You could definitely find cheaper. Comes with two magazines, the walnut grips on it, and some black grips to put on.

Thanks for the tips and advice on the 1911 stuff. I found one I like and ended up spending a lot less money than I had previously planned (the rest went to ammo). Would like to replace the sights and maybe the hammer in the future. Went ahead and put the Hogue grips on. 200 rounds ran through it this weekend and I'm hooked on it.

Nice looking pistola.
I would be interested to know what you find regarding sights.
I have a military cut Springer that needs better sights.
