Here's something kind of strange -- of all the episodes we've seen in the series so far, the opening scene, and the ending scene, is Rick shooting a little girl zombie in the head.

TWD season 3 super sweet!!

well that's what i meant. from what i've seen, there's been a lot of growing discontent with this current season. i just want it to pick up. having drama and the human element is fine, but it still boils down that people want to see some zombie action

Even though The Walking Dead proved to be a hit – and it is the only series that AMC owns completely – the network had already announced to the producers that they would not only be cutting the budget of the series from $3.4 million to $2.7 million, but that they would also want 13 episodes produced instead of 6 episodes that made up its first season. To make matters worse, AMC also told the producers that the 30% tax credit that the series receives from filming in Georgia would go directly to the network, and not make up for some of the money that was taken out of the production budget.
Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened – and Darabont wasn’t too happy about it. Known as a man who fights for what he believes in, a confrontation between AMC and The Walking Dead producers occurred. With the head of original programming for AMC, Joel Stillerman, sticking to the cut budget, the network than began to overstep their bounds and attempt to tell Darabont how to produce the series.
Even with record ratings on their side, Darabont would repeatedly enter meetings with Stillerman where he would simply say, “Ratings have no bearing on this conversation.” With rumors persisting that he has poor relationships with most of AMC’s series creators, insiders have begun to say that “Joel [Stillerman] thinks he is responsible for the success of shows on AMC, and not the creators.”
Instead of long, sprawling outdoor scenes, the network wanted the second season of The Walking Dead to occur 50% outdoors and 50% indoors (indoors being cheaper to film). Another note asked whether or not the audience had to always see the zombies – couldn’t they simply hear them sometimes.

They then fired Darabont AFTER he appeared at Comic-Con, knowing full well they were going to fire him BEFORE he went to Comic-Con. They wanted his famous face to be there representing TWD at Comic-Con even though they knew he wasn't going to be a part of Season 2.
Fucking TV executives. Goes to show just how hard it can be to keep an honest vision of your project.
I knew something strange was going on with Frank Darabont, I just didn't know it was so serious. Thanks for the information.

Looking forward to season 2 continuing and season 3.
Unfortunately the tv exects do seem like dicks. Norman Reidus and 2 other actors were booked for Rock and Shock in October and had been booked for over 6 months. A week before AMC decided Massachusetts fans were not important enough and pulled the actors to NY Comiccon so they could show their faces for a few minutes. The sudden move also cost Rock and Shock organizers allot of money which AMC also did not care about.
I can understand AMC's business move, but it was kind of low of them.

Good to see we'll get another season. Hard to see an end since they have barely scratched a lot of the subject matter in the comics.
Check out my story "Zombies Across the Border" in the books section and let me know what you think!

I never read the comic books but I wanna know who the governor is. Is that a bad question to ask since it may be a spoiler?

I dont think that Rick would put up with the governor's BS. But he probilly wont have bad arse Shane to watch his back. I hope the farm gets overrun so the story moves along. I have been forcing myself not to read the graphic novels because the show is so great.

I don't think that it would matter at this point in the series. The show is only "based" on the comic. It's a very different story form the TV show.

I actually have issues 1 - 25 still in their protective wrappers when I got them from a comic book store as they came out , havent even opened them. Extra issues of 1-8. Maybe Im banking on them for retirement. But I went out and got the first few graphic novels at Barnes n Noble. I wish I would of know how big TWD would be I would of gotten dozens of the first few issues.

Hahaha, I've been doing the same thing. I didn't know who the Governor was either. I have TWD comics but haven't gotten around to them yet, I have so many other non-fiction things to read first.

When season two is over I hope we dont have to wait till Oct again, that was harsh. I read up to where they arrived to the prison but that was way before the TWD TV show came out, I probilly will read all of them now since I dont think there will be any spoilers. Its funny the new term at work when someone screws you over or goes behind your back to the foreman, Its called "Being Shaned"

The first couple of dozen issues are worth a lot of money. Probably close to a grand or so.

Just go with the trades or omnibus collections. The single issues are still going up with #1 grades 9.8 (near mint) around $1000 alone.

Yes little over 7k for issue 1 and a bit over 6k on two.
I ended up selling my full run to issue 60 for a not over $3k a year and a half ago.
I still have my adlard original piece though, that isn't going anywhere.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. My wife bought me some of the first issues of TWD comics and we've enjoyed them and plan to buy more. Here's the thing for anybody who loves the show like we do but may be hesitant in reading the books: The show and the comics are very, very different. Many of the same characters exist, however, the plot lines are different enough from the TV show, that it's almost like you're looking at two different universes for the characters. Read the comics, watch the show and enjoy two different stories.
