The Ward is John Carpenter's 1st directorial debut in 10 years since he last made Ghosts of Mars(I think). He did make Cigarette Burns and another film for Masters of Horror series though.
Alot of people have had negative reviews for The Ward but I watched it the other night and I enjoyed it for what it was.
*****ATTENTION SPOILERS*****
The ending to it was alot like Identity(which starred John Cusack) and also The Ward reminded me of Shutter Island too in a way.
But I still enjoyed it. To each his own as they say.
This film was better than Carpenter's films such as Memiors of an Invisible Man(starring Chevy Chase), Escape from LA(I didn't like that sequel at all), and Village of the Damned(remake).
The Ward is about a disturbed girl who is sent to a mental hospital and put into a girl's ward with 5 or 6 other girls. Well at night a ghost figure starts haunting and killing the girls' off one by one.
Anyway, this is not a great film by any means but I enjoyed it for what it was.

I enjoyed it. I liked it right from the start because it felt like a quality film like the ones I miss from the 80's, unlike allot of the new crap I had been watching. It wasn't as good as his many classics. But I still liked it.

I guess some fans were expecting it to live up to his old standards from the 70's thru 90's. The only film of his that just didn't do it for me was his 1st film called Dark Star back in like mid 70's before Assault on Precinct 13. Village of the Damned wasn't too good but I never hated it. I enjoyed Ghosts of Mars and Vampires.
I think he still has some good films left in him....I mean he's only in his 60's but if he keeps chain smoking like he does he might not make anymore lol.
He is my all time fave director though.

He's my favorite director as well. I love his style. And I agree he still has some great movies left if he wants to. I LOVE Cigarette Burns!! I thought it was his best since Mouth of Madness.

Yes I do have Cigarette Burns and loved it. I think the lead actor in it is in the Walking Dead tv series
