Let's try this again...
Your compound is surrounded by zed, and you have a toothache.
Are you prepared to extract your own tooth? Your child's tooth?
What equipment/meds/training do you think you might need to do it in a safe and sanitary fashion?
Pliers and aspirin, a string and a doorknob? An ice skate and hefty rock?
Thoughts?
Suggestions?

Pliers might work if you were doing it to someone else since you can see exactly what you're grabbing, and is probably still the best bet for yourself but it just seems like it would be harder. I'd almost think spending a few days wiggling it back and forth non stop with your fingers to loosen it (like when you're a little kid with baby teeth) and then giving it a good yank with whatever tool you have at your disposal.
Check out my story "Zombies Across the Border" in the books section and let me know what you think!

I love it.
And no, I'm not prepared for any of that. I have no idea how to do it safely, and there is no way I could do it on myself even if I did. Fortunately I seem to have pretty resilient teeth.

Do you think that if you took the proper sanitation measures that zombie teeth could be used as replacements for the living or made into dentures of some sort? I mean it not like they will rot just because they turn zombie right? Thinking about it a bit more, there will probably be a surplus of platinum and gold laying around that could be made to good use. Go out raiding for some morphine, then when I am not feeling no pain, have someone pull it. I just spent over $1000 to have all my teeth fixed, even with dental insurance.

Pliers.. I think I could do my own, if the pain were bad enough. But I would have a hard time pulling the teeth of a child

The trick is to not crush the tooth when using pliers.

There is a good pair of books out there published by Hesparian called "Where There is No Dentist" and "Where there is No Doctor." These are free to download off their website and can be valuable in the situation you describe. They are designed so that people with little formal education (I'm not implying anything here, lol) can still apply rudimentary medical and dental skills to help themselves or others when there is no doctor or dentist. I believe they may be published to be passed out in third world countries in Africa.

First off these are only my unlearned thoughts. If your teeth are in good shape they may have much less deterioration in the ZPAW. The sugars of modern decadent society is the cause of the majority of decay. Plaque bacteria thrives on sugars and corrodes the enamel, which leads to cavities, pain, and ultimately infection, that if untreaded can lead to fever, lethargy, and death.
There will likely be less sugar consumption after Z-Day. So although you have less contemporary tooth care, you will be in need of less do to "better" diets if you are finding food. Sadly though, unhealthy body mass conditions from staravtion due to lack of found or stored reserves can also cause tooth loss.
Minimal risk teeth are all the front teeth in front of the premolars. Usually they have shallow roots and nerves. Once pulles they usually leave shallow holes in the gums that clot quickly and heals in a week.
Premolars are pretty safe teeth to pull, with smallish pointy root spikes. Heals pretty fast also.
Molars as Bob mentioned have long and sometimes curved roots that can break. The job gets messy. That piece needs to come out usually or a bad infection ensues. Plus all the extra digging and cutting of the gums leaves it open to dry socket and other infections.
The vestigial wisdom teeth are the worst to get out due to deep thick windind roots. They break often. Often current Dentists break them on purpose and pull the pieces out. They are teeth that no longer are needed to our species and often have to be pulled as soon as they come in because human mouths don't need them for grinding extra veggies.
But If you had a dentist and other specialized skilled people you villages life expectancy goes way up.

If anybody ever did something like curb stomp me, they better kill me when they're done. When I get better, I wouldn't be out to kill. I'd be out to make them spend every day of a long, painful life wishing I'd killed them.
