Just found a great company that sells bulk packs of different variety heirloom seeds tailored for the specific region you live in.
The seeds are sealed in a can and they claim they will last, sealed, for up to 40 yrs.
If you want the web address, PM me, and if I am at my real computer, I can get you a link...

Garden time again. If you haven't already started your seeds indoors for seedlings, now is the time.

Next year I am planning on trying to make a 'tub' garden in my back yard. I have a small area that gets sunlight most of the day, on my patio. I am thinking about getting several galvanized washtubs, placing them on the patio and planting carrots and onions, maybe potatoes (these are the only veggies I really like) and see if it's possible to grow over the summer enough to make it worthwhile to do on a yearly basis.

I've been thinking about building myself a greenhouse in the backyard this year. I'm also definitely going to have to grow myself some more Tobacco too. Those cigars I rolled last year were yummy. Not sure what all else I'm going to grow yet though. Gonna have to be something relatively low maintenance though because I just don't have as much time on my hands as I did last year since I've got the second business to run on my hands now.

I got my garden in a couple of weeks ago. I got some good fertilizer from a friend who runs a dairy farm lol.
So far I have planted
Watermelon
Corn
Tomatoes
Green Peppers
Cabbage
Romaine Lettuce
Brussel Sprouts
Peas
Green Beans
Cauliflower
Cucumbers
Cantaloupes
Garlic
Turnips, in mid July
I'll try and post a pic of it sometime, I'm really proud of the corn it's coming up really well.

Still haven't got along to building the greenhouse yet but my plums trees are already starting to make some nice size fruits. The grapes are coming along nicely, and everything in my "Pizza Garden" is growing like weeds. Squirrels have ravaged my peach and pear tree's though so I'm not hopeful on those.

Well I think its been about a month since I planted everything. Seems like all of the plants have taken off really well, except the green beans only half of them came up. The tomatoes and corn are doing excellent!

I'm often surprised at how much space you guys have in your homes up north. I couldn't fit half of all that in my backyard if I got rid of the two trees (and one of them being a fruit tree this might be counterproductive).
Still, looks like the crops are growing nicely Mr. Orange. It actually makes me want to try to grow a little food for myself, apocalypse or not.
