Mrknot, the cops over in Clackamas Co. are a little less strict, when I was out walking at night I carried knives and a baton, then again I used to be a very small guy(5'7" and 135 pounds) and now Im only marginally bigger(5'10" and 155.) so they understood me carrying that kinda stuff. Orange County is much stricter than my hometown I understand. I only carry my pocket knife now.

Government Involvement.

A collapsible police baton in most states is a restricted weapon. just a note.

Thats shocking. Most states restrict such weapons. In California its a felony for a civilian possess one. I believe Illinois law is the same. In Michigan its illegal to possess one as well.

They would not be able to have control forever...their enforcement would certainly crumble over time.

Based on the total cluster f%$# that was Katrina, can you imagine that happening in all 50 states at once with Zeds instead of hurricanes? There would be no need to worry about the military as I truly believe that most troops would go UA, or as the Army says.. AWOL, to be with their families to protect them , same would go for the LEOs.

Oh yeah, get an 03 battalion on the ground and no one stands a chance if we dont want them too. A platoon sized element could hold down a neighborhood if we swung it right, maybe a platoon reinforced with some machine guns.

You guys are somewhat spoiled methinks. Most countries in the world, mine included, have tighter gun and blade laws.
The rationale is always the same, to keep the peace and preserve life and keeping weapons out of the hands of dangerous criminals.
Those of you who remember where I live are laughing already. For those of you who don't: I'm from Mexico.
I'm guessing, back to the original topic, that if my government gets involved, like on anything it gets involved, it will logically be a colossal screw-up. And if you think the movement of people without papers or permission is bad now, wait until the axe falls south of the border.

"Imagine"? "nothing to kill or die for"? Having nothing worth dying for, or killing for, is having nothing worth living for.

I believe that the government would jump to the last possible conclusion and start to bomb highly populated areas to prevent the disease from spreading more quickly. I think that they would think the only solution being to completely wiping out the human race and starting over. Because you know when has the government ever made a coherent conclusion to ever more threatening problem.
