So, I've been looking at some Kel-tec handguns and rifles, and was wondering if anyone had any owner-experience with any kel-tec hardware

Had a P11 but got rid of it. Small, but the trigger is absolutely terrible. Haven't replaced it yet.

Long and heavy. I'm sure with lots of practice it's ok but not for me. Difficult on such a small weapon. Probably around 15-18 pnds.

WOW. that's a heavy pull for a sub-compact.

I looked at one in the gun store, and the clerk quietly pulled me aside and advised me not to buy one. I'm thinking he was going to try and talk me into a more expensive gun (they get commission you know) but I was just looking.
A person I know has the p380 and loves it.
My advise-test fire a gun before you buy it, see how it feels.

I have a P380, a PF9 and a P11

I do not care for the P11 in that size a Glock 26 or 27 is a better choice.
The P11 is not significantly smaller than a G27.

I carry a P380 daily.
It is a handful as is the PF9 which to me shoots softer than the P11.

I have never even fired one of their rifles so have no opinion of them.

Specific questions about the ones I have?

What's the real trigger pull on the P11 bob?

Don't know in pounds.
I took mine apart and polished it as best I could, that helped.
I use grease on parts that slide and oil on parts that rotate or when in doubt.
Some of the gun greases will make a difference you can feel in the trigger.
I do not like the P11 I do not like the way it feels when I shoot it it hurts my finger when it gets banged against the bottom / trigger guard or whatever it is it hits.
I feel pretty certain it has something to do with the base design read that ergonomics in regard to my hand.
The PF9 is a much better shooting small gun.

I've heard their handguns are terrible and their .223 rifles are popular.

It depends on who you talk to and what they were looking for in a pistol.
A P3AT and the PF9 are not target pistols.
The trigger is not great but is good enough at defensive distances.
You must lock your wrist both are very subject to limp wristing problems.
I also have a Ruger LCP which is a rip off of the P3AT with a few changes and better fit and finish.
The trigger on it is not wonderful either.

I know a gun shop that refuses to sell them.
The Kel-Tecs I have are carry a lot, shoot a little.
Shoot them enough to understand the point of impact and and once in a while so you stay tuned.
They are not for running thousands and thousands of rounds through like a Glock.

alright. I'm looking for a compact- my p89's a bit bulky.

Also, I've heard good and bad things about hi-point pistols. any owner experience?

So... basically what I'm gathering here is get me a Glock.

I like my sig too but it's hard to hide.
I'd say any pistol with a 4in bbl or smaller that's reliable and that YOU like. It's budget and preference. I haven't heard anything against Ruger and they usually run less than others, around a c-note mostly. Kahr makes nice products but are pricey. Don't forget CZ or Walther.
I also have a recent crush on old colt revolvers, look at the Detective Special.
I'd say 380 acp minimum.

I just wish my p89 was smaller. I love that pistol to bits.

yeah. it's a ruger. my predicament is, my P89 is too large for inconspicuous carry.

For pocket carry get a P3AT or a LCP
For large pocket carry a PF9 or the Ruger rip off of it LC9
For a concealable gun big enough to be considered a primary get a Glock 26 or 27

Would you like to see a picture comparing an XD sub-compact with a Glock sub-compact?

Just remember there is no perfect pistol and no perfect way to carry.
You won't know how it really carries till you have done so for a week or two.
