Would anyone be interested in having a fun little ATZ shooting conest to test everyones skills? I know i would love to before snow hits. If anyone is interested I think for the first one I would like to pose a challenge to see who can shoot a cap off a bottle at 50 ft, pic's to verify and since its on the internet there is no way to stop cheating but its just for fun so go by the honor rule and don't cheat lol. have to give a limit at oh say 10 shots max, post pic and how many shots it took you, i'll upload later

I shot this target and posted a pic here a while ago, it's the only pic of a target I have presently...........

18rds at 25yds, if we're scoring, it's- 1x 9, 17x 10= 179/180 and 7 for sure Xs.
Sorry, no bottle cap shots.

I typically don't shoot for pure marksmanship. I mostly do target acquisition drills. And do I get bonus points for wearing 60 lbs of gear?

nice shootin, I presently do not have any "human targets" that's why i just threw the bottle cap idea out there, I was actually thinking post-it's cause of one of the coments i saw in the thread about sometimes headshots might not kill zombies, but I don't have any of those either =D I also forgot to mention in first post (cause i was runnin late for work) please specify type of gun used as well, and if you used a scope
So anyways, after about 10 rounds for setting my scope in i was able to nail it on my first try. I was just using my bolt action .22 with 3-9 x 32 scope, had that thing forever

I tried to replicate my success on another target but shot a bit low, the bottles had those tiny slim caps (i was shooting from the side as you can see)

What exactly do you mean acquistion drills? If you specified maybe we could do similiar challenges in the future. And sure if your standing for your shot, kneeling prone not as much lol

I am planning on going to the indoor range this week some time.
Perhaps I could put a sticky or something on a target and shoot at it.
It will be at least a couple of weeks before I can get to the outdoor range again.

Yea I know that alot of people arn't able to readily go out and shoot at a target due to alot of people don't own the land or have the location to do it. it dont nessacarily have to be a bottle cap just that size. Like i said I came up with idea today and I thought if i was able to upload some picks asap I would maybe get other motivated to participate

Not complaining but there need to be ground rules
Handgun or Rifle
Scoped - Red Dot - Iron Sights
Rest or Free Hand
All these things make a large difference.

Yeah, that's why i said post what you used. Its all for fun so it don't matter who "wins", I would say for this first one use a rifle with whatever optic you would want. In future we can get more specific, i would just like as many people as possible to get involved with this one. if you can make a 50ft bottle cap shot with a handgun i would be pretty impressed, even a iron sight rifle would be pretty good, I will have to try that

I can't figure out how to edit my first post so.........S&W 4" 625-8, .45 acp, ugly smooth wood grip, adjustable rear and gold bead front sights, ammo was 185gr Winchester hollow points in full moon clips, single action, standing modified weaver stance, it was dark and I was wearing sunglasses...........
Since we're focused on shooting zombies in the brain housing group, why don't we stick to any of the field firing positions, no rests or benches. Slings, optics, bipods, off hand, back pack, etc, whatever you'd likely have in the PAW. I've never run into hogs and a bench out in the field at the same time.

I wear my sunnnglasses at night, so I can, so I can.... Sorry what?
Oh right, IDK if i mentioned in original post, but the idea is that challenges will change and get progressively harder, I think doing a couple lenient one's at begining would be best, you can use any optic/bipod/prone/gun. Then do some pistol challenges, then maybe try something along the lines of mobile target practice (walking and shooting, maybe advancing from 100 ft up to 50 ft taking shots every 5 ft without stopping. I would like to do a "mad minute" minute challenge with bolt action rifles, Idk about 300 yds though, may have to lower that one by a large distance. I mean I really don't know what everyone would be interested in doing, I know alot of people on here are gun nuts and have alot of different kind of firearms, but I'm just a hunter.... I have a rifle and shotgun ha ha. So I'm open to suggestions

Nice shootin, what distance were you at and position?
To clarify: The Army ain't payin my ass enough for me to buy a bunch of ammo. But we try to get the teams out on the range about once every couple weeks, and I can usually squeeze myself in. We do almost all of our shooting standing but it varies from on the move, to the most awkward positions you can think of. Very rarely in combat do you have the opportunity to set up in the prone supported.
As for the sort of drills we regularly run through:
We use multiple targets with either numbers or letters on them of varying colors and sizes. Whoever is conducting the training will set the parameters, but it's oftentimes calling a mixture of colors and numbers and then focusing on quick target acquisition, controlled firing, maybe a simulated jam and transition to sidearm, and who knows what else. Throw in obstacles, be it walls, vehicles, etc. and the added stress of working with a small team all firing and it gets rather intense and confusing. Fun as hell though.
I highly recommend that once you're comfortable behind your weapon, you throw on a chest rig or something you would potentially wear should SHTF and then smoke your ass. After your breathing and heart-rate are elevated try some drills (send me a PM and I can give you some safe ones your range officer should allow).
Very very very rarely when it comes to using your weapon skills in real life will you ever have a calm controlled environment or the time to sit back behind a weapon. Train for real life, and then make it harder. It could possibly save your life someday.

@ Landrik
First it was only around 50ft and I was just kneeling, I've had plenty of practice in the past with squirrel hunting.
Secondly that does sound very fun and I would love to give something like that a try. Target acquisition is a good idea, I will probably work together with one of my friends in the near future to set up something. He owns 100 acres of farmland so it's always more fun to head over there and go shooting. I'm actually considering buying a new rifle for myself for Christmas. Right now I'm trying to decide if I want a bolt action or semi auto, I'm leaning toward semi auto because It would be more versatile for running drill's such as those. I'm thinking of looking into something .223, I'm not very familiar with many brands and such. My knowledge is limited to "mainstream" military style weaponry, whatever it is I need to find something reasonable priced, I did like a very small amount of research today and saw someone on another forum talking about "savage" rifles, they are supposed to be reasonably priced, very accurate out the box, reliable, and range from 30-06, .308, and .223 so I'll have to do a little more reasearch about those, not to go off topic but I'm always open to suggestions, I'm not gonna pretend to know about stuff and not ask the people with much more knowledge than me lol

here's a couple targets i shot about a month ago.

those are some of my better groupings, I try to keep some of my best shot targets around. most of the time I practice shooting out hte center of shotgun clays, they're about 5" across with the center only about 3" across. they break if you hit the rim or the dirt around it. its more fun to shoot than paper.
*MCS stands for micro compact stock, a bull pup stock i designed and handmade. the Voere rifle doesn't have a factory-built in optics mount, to use the bullpup stock I designed and made my own optics mount too.
my pistol groups currently are less than satisfactory. but I'm still be beginner and signed up for some professional training later this week, if my accuracy gets better I'll post those up if i can.

Just so you know, we got the Blues Brothers restored edition this summer and I love that movie!
My brother and his best friend went to prom (with their own dates) dressed like that, but they couldn't get a hat for Allen and they both looked like Jake because they were both really big guys, but they had the sunglasses and black suits.
That is one of those movies I will have in my collection to watch when i am old and crotchty while everyone else watches Star Wars IVX Return of the Naked Yota because it is one of those classic movies I grew up loving, but now we own it!
Back on topic.
I guess hitting clay pigeons from 19 yards counts to some form of accuracy right? Well that is the only real actual distance and dignified size.
