Been lucky so far. Maybe I'll try bobs phone book test, I have a few laying around. I used them for 22 and 25 before. How many books have your loads penetrated? All 4?

Everything I read indicates you should soak them in a bucket of water overnight.

I stack up gallon jugs filled with water (make sure to put a drop of soap into milk jugs and rinse them out when done with the milk , some rounds really bust up the jugs ). I use a 2 x 12 on top of plastic 55gal drums . Most 9mm takes 5 jugs , .44mag takes 8 or so . I've yet to recover a .458 socom , the first couple of jugs disntergrate and I think it veers off course enough to not end up in a jug .

I'd still like to find a standard medium to use for skull penetration test .

for the wet paper ( most guys use news papers too) . I'd use a cardboard box lined with a garbage bag , probly help to reinenforce it with duct tape .

A 22. rimfire would kill if it is fragmenting but yes you can be shot or stabed in the brain and live but most likely you would die.
