The best I could figure after burning the guy with the ear ring in the wrong ear she stayed out there to freeze. She saw how he protested and thought he was the real him and began to wonder if she really was who she thought she was. So she thought it was better to sacrafice herself rather than risk starting the process of infection/assimilation all over again.

After reading that I don't even understand it and I wrote it. That's just what I took away after watching it, I'd love to hear what other people think.

That's my view of it too.

But in the 1982 ending it showed Kurt Russell and Keith David waiting it out in the cold to freeze xause they were tired and didn't know which one was the thing but in the special features on the original dvd it said that MacCready survived and that Keith David was the thing.

I did not know that. I never watch the bonus stuff unless it is deleted scenes or alt endings.

All I know is one thing that could have made this better was real sfx and not cgi.

And a better script and more gore and no cgi and less big spaceship and a smaller spaceship and no cgi.
