If I new right when people were gonna start turning into zombies, I'd probably hide in the bathroom/air duct of a local sporting goods store (if Zombie Zero Hour feel between 10 PM - 6 AM) that way when the shit hit the fan, I would be in the best location possible, and I would have already barricaded the doors with shopping carts to prevent looters and zombies. Then I would just sit pretty on my mountain of guns/ammo and dehydrated food/water purification and general camping and wilderness supplies until it either blew over, or died down to a point where I could scavenge if needed.

If it fell on business hours, I would get friends and family to go to the store, then "rob" the place, get all the people I didn't know out and take they people I wanted to stay "hostage". Then while they go through their negotiations, they would be swarmed and I'd be in a stronghold with people I trust. For this one, I would have to know for a FACT that the zombie outbreak was happening, and when.

Wow. First, how are you going to sneak into the duct work of the store? Will the store employees be so blind as to not see you sneaking around? If you have to break into the store, how are you going to force out those who beat you to the place? We got ourselves a nice little stockpile of supplies in our house already, and a natural gas generator set to automatically pump gas so we have a near infinite (pretty much) source of power. We'd probably go down to the grocery store within walking distance, get all the non-perishables and water, and see if we can't work together with the neighborhood to barricade us from zombies.

Guns and ammo might be a problem, but if we just max some credit cards and make some bad checks we can probably rectify that situation.

I'd see if we could make a barricade out of felled trees using the construction equipment nearby.

Then we just don't do anything to make the zombies notice us, set up a little farm, and we're home free.

First call some buddies and tell them we might want to do a "training roll-out". Then load up the trailer with all the food and supplies I can and head to the "hunting camp". Off load and then do some store runs for some more lumber and supplies. Do some more improvements at the camp, sit back during the night and enjoy possibly our last take out pizzas, and then get a good night sleep. Cause in the morning it may get a little sporty.

Surprisingly good post, and most of it is true. Problem is not everyone wants to play nice or can act 100% rational and set aside their mistrust and ego. If we did, there wouldn't be a zombie apocalypse to start with, because when you think about it, zombies are individually not nearly the threat that a tiger or bear is, even with the whole headshots only/no pain advantages they are basically slower, dumber humans.

I'll reply to FB's first. Short version: Zombies aren't viewed as individuals, but as a group, and they're even more dangerous as such.

DMW: While i don't disagree with much of what you said, there are members here that would be in a group, whether with family or friends. They have more of reason as to why they wouldn't want to add more members.

If I had 24 hours warning and assuming I can convince people that it will happen I would first fortify my convenience store the best I could. That would involving moving our coke and pepsi coolers to block the large windows that the store has. We've got a shotgun and a pistol only but we also have a good supply of ammo. Not a sporting goods store supply by all means but enough. Food and water wouldn't be a concern at the beginning and depending on how many people we let in it could last a good bit if we ration it well. After all the blockades are moved into place leaving just the front door accessible, we would probably go out to get whatever supplies we don't have and securing at least one large van (most likely a U-haul) in case we need to get out of dodge. Then I would go get the people I trust (again assuming they believe me and are willing to come) to start a small group.

One major problem is that the store has only one way in which means one way out which would be bad if zombies or raiders got in. And since the front door will be blocked by a heavy beverage cooler, getting out will be hard. I would be more worried about the living assholes than zombies because there are a lot of them in our area.
