its around there that most .22's start to shed velocity in the barrel . I prefer barrels on a .22lr to be around 4" long for the oppisite reason . they don't have enough barrel to get up to supersonic speed . everything that I run through my MKII is subsonic . my main 10/22 has a threaded 16" barrel , I'd like a shorter one but don't feel like paying the $200 for that right now . I've got a stainless one sitting around in pieces that I'm thinking about making into a target gun with a 16"" GM barrel , threaded of course .

Thank you Hitman. Then I guess I am asking why does CAV45 feel the need to have a 26 inch barrel for his .22lr? A while back I bought a Wal-Mart special Ruger 10/22 with a barrel length of about 21 inches, plus or minus a little. So not knowing it I did good?

BTW Boys, I wana play in the .22 wars, I was told a story by an old friend, he said.

Death in the Long Grass" author, Peter Hathaway Capstick, once killed an elephant on a bet with a .22 LR.

Does anyone know if this is true?

I didn't "feel the need" for it. That's simply the way it came.Posted Image The gun was on sale for a very good price, so I bought it. Is there something wrong with the barrel length?Posted Image

I think the ladies like 'em longer.

On a serious note, I never really paid attention to the barrel length on my 10/22. I couldnt even tell you how long it is. It's more of a preference than anything else. If you're not in target matches, then you wont even notice a difference in velocity differences.
Shotgun Aficionado.
I don't want your AR. I'm sorry.

Goodness Silly Zedlimper, It isn’t the length of your barrel. It is how well you shoot it, silly BOY!

I've not read that one . I've read where they killed elephant with .270's and 6.5's . they would pull the bullets and load them in the case backwards . the base of the bullet has a full metal jacket profile . its probly not the safest option but beats the heck out of being trampled and gored .

I've always heard that the ladies like something bigger around rather than something longer , like a bull barrel (good and fat and stiff ) .
you can never have to many guns

Hitman, Silly Boy, are you hitting on me? :naughty:

Everyone knows it isn’t the size of the barrel, it’s how fast you can reload.

A elephant is the largest land mammal on the face of the Earth that can walk, it has been reported some elephants in Africa have been found victim to 7.62mm rounds and one even had a .480 slug lodged in it's skull. A .22LR? That is a new one.
.............
Unless the dude shoved the gun into that elephant's ear for a direct shot to the brain or managed to get a shot passed the A) thick hide B) slabs of meat/muscle/tissue and C) bones to land a billion to one hit, than I'd say find me confirmed proof this did happen and I might stop laughing so hard.
