The funny thing is, that's pretty much the reverse here in Ca.
"You can never have too many guns, yo-yos, or crayons"- Mrs. Hotlead speaking to my Nephew Easter morning.
"Yeah, your 9mm "might" expand when it hits the target, but my .45 sure as hell won't shrink."- Me argueing with my Brother about pistol calibers.
BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG-Pinnnnggg,......clank....clank
BANG....yeah baby, one shot, one ki..........dang it................BANG

Any of my AR's or AK74's. They get dead things deader.

I again do not see why you mention the kar98.
Because dear homelite's dream is to live in 1938 Germany as a member of the SS

Hornady produces new manufacture ammo for the 7.92x33. My previous employer in FL has a select fire STG44. He feeds it the Hornady ammo. It is really accurate ammo.
You can buy the semi auto version in Canada. It is produced in Croatia, I believe.

Go with a rifle-better range and accuracy than a pistol. Or get a carbine that uses the same ammo as your pistol, like 9mm or 45 acp.
If they ban guns, how will I fight the zombies?

I'd take a good mossy, or an SKS. I've got the ruger for close up.

I understand some here are talking about using old milsurp bolt guns because that is all they can afford. I get that. The SMLE in the closet is better than the AR at the gun store.
I do not get your post at all. Do you own these two weapons? If so why you would even mention the kar98 if you have an stg44? If you are picking "dream" guns, I again do not see why you mention the kar98.
i do actually own a kar98 also got an old m94 mauser for that matter very good rifles

Well, some of us are a whole lot older than that. I think Bob might have actually fought in the civil war

I'm less than accurate with handguns, I feel most confident with rifles. I'd probably take one of my .22's. mostly because the ammo is very light, i can carry lots of it. a gun without ammo isn't of much use, and I don't really feel safe with less than a few hundred rounds at my disposal, its only with a .22lr I can carry a good 1-2k rounds and not excessively weigh myself down.
if not on foot I'd probably choose something quite a bit heavier, such as one of my Mosins or my H&R .500 S&W mag rifle. ammo weight wouldn't be of much concern, so long as I can go back to my vehicle to resupply I don't need to carry much with me either. I might even take a shotty on some days!
I was splitting cards from 50 yards with my .22lr rifle this afternoon. that kind of superb accuracy is just want i'd like in a zombie hunting rifle.

AR-15/M16. A single 5.56 will kill you just as dead as a .308 with a headshot, it's fairly comfortable and light and the ammo is also light, common and cheap (relatively I mean). I mean really, a AR-15 type rifle vs an exotic gun like say, the $2300 ACR (if you can even get one)? No contest, you can buy enough ammo to get decent marksmanship skills with it for the price difference. Also, it'll probably fit any magazines you can find at a police station. Army mags wouldn't work here since the standard infantry rifle where I live is the G3.
"Imagine"? "nothing to kill or die for"? Having nothing worth dying for, or killing for, is having nothing worth living for.
