a scale i used (non digital) showed 30 rounds of brass M855 in an aluminum GI mag weighed about a pound, 30 rounds in a PMag didnt quite bottom the scale out so was slightly over a pound, and 20 rounds of South African 7.62 nato in a 20rnd steel FAL mag bottomed the scale out so slightly over a pound. It was enough for me to know each additional mag is a roughly a pound of weight whichever rifle i wanna go with, so kind of useful info, wish i had a digital scale to be exact.

How much does my Ammo weigh?

Could you weigh the empty mags, or at least the FAL?

I know, I have two 50 cal ammo cans filled to the brim with 40 cal. I hate picking those up and moving them. I should get 30 cal cans instead.

I'd like to add that one brick of Walmart's Federal Value Pack of 550 rounds .22LR weighs 4.000 lbs. I used 3 different digital scales to confirm this weight, and a case (10 bricks or 5500 rounds) weighs 40.00 lbs.
I don't have that fancy Dillon scale at my disposal, that thing is about 2X the value of all my reloading tools combined! I do have Lee safety powder scale but it only goes up to 110 grains.

the only thing i can offer is that 30 rounds of 5.56 mm in a GI magazine weighs 1 lb.
probably just a touch more if you are using PMags, so still figure 1 lb x # of magazines. (a standard combat load in the army is 7 mags)
for what it's worth...

Could you be more specific on the 12GA cartridges? Like slug/shot weight and pellet count?

Someone asked about 32 caliber cartridges, here goes.
32 ACP, Remington, 71gr FMJ - 116gr
32 S&W, W-W, 85gr LRN, - 130gr
32 S&W Long, Remington, 98gr LRN - 148gr
32 H&R Magnum, Federal, 90gr LSWC - 151gr
32 H&R Magnum, Federal, 85gr JHP - 147gr
32-20 Winchester, 115gr handload, - 180gr
32 Winchester Special, 170gr SilverTip - 349gr
The last one is a rifle cartridge and the OP was probably referring more to pistol cartridges. I have a 7.62x25 and a single 30 Luger cartridge I almost weighed and included as well since they're almost the same diameter as the 32's.
I like this thread, gives me something to do when I'm really bored and it's pretty original too.
