I am not into horror films in general and I must admit I am really a fair-weather fan of zombie flicks. I am working on broadening my horizons however. I have seen the most of the popular horror movies like Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street (at least the first of each). They all are bores!

What I want is fun or funny, moderate to low budget and nothing Hollywood.

What I have seen and liked are the not-Hollywood-not-so-big in the popular market. Shaun of the Dead, Black Sheep, Lesbian Vampire Killers & Netherbeast Incorporated.

What do you recommend?

REPO: The Genetic Opera (2008) is pretty good. And I also heard a lot of good things about Slither (2006). Check those out and I'll get back to you with some more. Both are sort of Cult Classics and not so main stream.

dog soldiers ( not well known in the main stream at least ) best werewolf movie ever.

not totally a horror but a horror comedy and not as popular as it should be is The Frighteners one of my all time favorite movies.

behind the mask : the rise of leslie vernon - mockumentry / slasher film that is one of the freshest most original and just flat out awesome horror / slasher movies since scream.

I loved that movie as I am a big fan of John Landis! (See you next Wednesday!) Good choice though. It's been a long time since I've seen it and I think I'll get the DVD this week! Thanks!

Maximum Overdrive is one of the best underrated horror movies in my collection! It was actually directed by Stephen King, and I thought he did a great job on it!

For some good cheesy fun i'd recommend Chopping Mall & Flesh Eating Mothers, they have some good gore are funny & have that perfect bad 80s acting/dialogue.

I definitely second The Rise of Leslie Vernon. Maximum Overdrive was pretty fun too, definitely an underrated Stephen King movie.

These may also fit your criteria for fun/funny "smaller" horror flicks, that've come out in recent years..

Feast
Slither
The Signal
Battle Royale
Baghead
My Name is Bruce
Botched
Hard Candy
Otis
Splinter
Altered

Zombie movies (not listing the really micro-budget ones):

Undead
Dead & Breakfast
Mud Zombies
Dead Snow
Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead
The Mad
Fido

Hope I gave you some ideas :-)

This isn't a zombie movie but it is similar to Shaun of the Dead, Black Sheep, and Slither.

It's called Severance. Really good movie, I enjoyed it alot. It doesn't involve any 'supernatural' baddies, but I would classify it as a horror.
