Ah hah! A little research from YahooAnswers.com brought this up.

I don't suggest trying it, but there's the knowledge anyway.

I don't suggest trying it either since, for one, you can't get picric acid from soil. The other is that it's actually the other damn way around, it takes nitric acid, sulfuric acid and phenol to synthetize picric acid. Not that it even makes any damn sense since you could make nitric acid out of ammonia, which is a lot easier to come by than picric acid or better yet, get some actual nitric acid which is used as industrial antiscalant (for use in piping and such) and to age wood artificially in woodworking. Plus, PA itself is explosive, so why you would bother to go around doing all the extra stuff is beyond me.

The author doesn't specify HOW you're going to concentrate the nitric acid (even if the whole part wasn't nonsense) and if you try to boil it, you're in for a nasty surprise since it's an oxidant used in early rocketry and a bit of organic impurities in it (which there's bound to be plenty of in an extraction from organic compounds, in uncontrolled conditions no less) might cause it to react violently and possibly self ignite. It also takes high concentrations (he never said how high, and I'm not telling either) of both acids at the right proportions to achieve any result other than ending up with a gunky acidic mess.

There's a reason why stuff like that has frequent and copious disclaimers, namely that fiddling around with strong chemical reactants without the appropiate knowledge of chemistry is likely to result in injuries or death. I mean no offense by this, and I'm not trying to be cocky, but if what you know about chemistry and/or explosives comes SOLELY from the internet, just don't.

I was a cross country runner in high school and college, so if we're undeniably boned I can just run the hell away. And I'm the second best paintballer in my area, so I probably would be a decent shot.

Was, major in chemical engineering, I switched majors half course. I still do experiments as a hobby, when I find the money to do so.

Shattered heel (I am a cripple but I can run I just suffer pain afterward)
Shoot a bullseye (7/10) times - Moving target ( 5/10) times (it's a minus as well)
Listen to idiots ( I'm so stuborn that I'd either try to take the leader role or wind up dead....)
I drink so much that its intolerable...

(reason for post)
This belongs in Survival, it comes down to how well you will survive when it comes to Z day.... Do you have skills that would help you survive or be worth saving? Post please lets see....

I'm a good shot with a rifle.
Can do most minor and some major electrical and mechanical repairs.
I'm in good enough shape to carry a good sized pack or another person if needed.
Know basic first aid.
Got a pretty good grasp of common sense, that should help quite a bit.

"Specialized skills"? I'd have to ask for a real working definition of what that means. But taking my cue from other posts I'll give it a shot. I'm an expert marksman with pistol and rifle. I'm an expert driver and mechanically inclined with training to back it up. I'm a trained combat lifesaver and used those skills on ME battlefields. I can hold my own in CQB.

I know how to fix cars, carpentry, and a little bit of farming. I think my most valuable skill though is the fact that I constantly dream about zombie epidemics. I was scared of zeds as a child and it developed into a decent adult obsession. I have gotten to the point that I think my planning skills and zombie knowledge are pretty much unmatchable. I have ideas that would work in most situations.

I'm much better than average with a handgun, 9mm or .40 cal. I'm stronger than average and IMHO I'm a good deal smarter than average. Embarrassed to admit this, but I've never fired a rifle. Not yet at least. I can operate fork lifts and drive a stick shift. I'm a qualified electrician and can do some carpentry and plumbing. I can run a torch to solder copper pipe and have also used a cutting torch, 6 months doing minor demolition. I've got a little experience with a backhoe, and when I was 12 I stole a bulldozer for a night. Did a few interesting things with it, and look forward to another chance to try it out! I'm no vehicle mechanic, but I can change out most of the easier parts. You know, like brakes, starters, alternators, water pumps, belts, radiators and such. Wouldn't even think about the big stuff, and the wiper blades on my wife's van completely kicked my ass! I'm a good planner and like to think things through ahead of time. But I don't get so bogged down in a plan that I can't take advantage of unexpected circumstances. I like to think through whatever might happen, then just go with the flow. If things go like I planned, great! If not, it's time to adapt to the new situation. I've always been great at working with other people...NOT! But it's something I've gotten better at in the last 5 to 10 years. I'm not a great outdoorsman and the thought of having to run any real distance it not a pleasant one. But I can carry a good deal of weight, say 100 lbs at a steady walk with out any strain for quite a while. Oh, how 'bout this. I can stay awake and alert for 38 hours and then do another 20 hours up after a 3 hour nap. I know, because I stayed that long at the hospital with my mom last year. I figure that's gotta come in handy at some point! The one real advantage that I would have is the same one everyone on this forum would have. I've actually thought about this stuff. I mean we all have, right. I, well we, would be way ahead of everyone else if Z-Day actually came. While 99.9% of the world was going nuts and running around screaming, we'd be going into survival mode, and doing what the situation demanded. That's gotta be a huge advantage, right?

I think the number one skill I have is a VERY high pain tolerance and pain delay. More than once I have cut myself bad enough to need tendon reconstruction and not felt the pain until 2 hours later when the nurse was shoving a needle in there to dull the pain in which I hadn't had yet. Same thing when I broke my arm, I just squirmed a little when the doc re-set it for me.

Other than that, I've taken a year of vocational electronics (robotics, computers, and general electronics) but fell just short of getting any certifications. I am a good driver and have wonderful navigational skills. I'm an okay shot with a pistol. Blades are my specialty. Give me any blade and I can sharpen it to a razor edge.

Another skill I have just started to develop is knot tying. This also goes along with my unusually high flexibility and dexterity. I can contort my arms and hands to escape from handcuffs behind my back and being tied up in general.

I have to be honest, while I am obsessed with the zombie apocalypse, I'm not much of a fighter. I haven't fired a gun in over 10 years. I know some morse code, my girlfriend's father showed me. So there's that.

And this may sound like I'm joking, but I fully volunteer my services to start and participate in some sort of breeding program. I'm twice a father, my seed is very potent. Let's face it, mankind's whole point on earth is to procreate - apocalypse or no.

With help I can turn off the sleep reflex.
However My primary specialization will be providing the seed for the next generation of humans.
Genetically I am proven.
My children are all healthy, tall and strong, way way beyond average intelligence.
Perhaps my German lineage has something to do with this?
Am I a product of Eugenics?
Why do I have children by more than one woman?
Are my children the result of continued selective breeding?
Why do my sons seek out blond women?
Why did my daughter marry a blond lawyer?
So many questions so few answers I am willing to provide...

And

And

For the low price of forty thousand dollars I will sell you a very nice bridge.
Currently it is called the Brooklyn Bridge but you can rename it to anything you like.

Oh yea, just in case.
KNOCK KNOCK!!!
