So who else saw The Walking Dead episode last night? If you didn't, but are still reading this, I'll spoil as little as possible.
They pull the teeth out of the walkers' mouths so they can't bite... Would that really save you? Do you think this implies that the walkers can only kill with bites?
Also - and this has been my problem with a bunch of zombie movies - in almost every zombie movie someone gets pissed off and takes their anger out on the undead. They go in yelling and screaming and punching, stabbing, bashing, slashing, getting completely covered in blood... then they walk away from it. Don't you think that along the course of their rampage that a little blood would spray into their open, screaming mouth? Or what about little cuts and scratches? I mean, I can't go camping without somehow snagging my leg or arm on a branch or rock, and these guys are surviving a zombie apocalypse without any abrasions whatsoever? Come on.
Now in TWD, Glenn checked Maggie for scratches, which I liked because that pointed out an overlook in other zombie films, but then Rick goes in covering himself head to toe in zed blood, shouting while doing it... And is fine.
Thoughts?

No teeth means that they can't break the skin for infection.
All the zombie spray and stuff....
Personally, if it was to go down, I would be mindful of such things, I think that for movies and shows it makes it to complicated to pay attention to.

Nah, you're absolutely right Darth. There's a need for a show/movie to be as streamlined as possible without losing realism, and the zombie spray is just one acceptable corner to cut. Doesn't mean I don't shake my head every time I see a character bathing in undead nastiness and living to tell the story.
And as far as the teeth thing goes... what about nails and whatnot? Plus, when two people are fighting each other like that, they get all cut up anyway (just watch UFC). I definitely wouldn't trust a toothless walker not to infect me if I'm already bleeding out the face. But this goes back to the show having to be streamlined. The Governor simply saying "It's rigged, we pull their teeth so they can't bite" is much easier than saying "We pull their teeth, clip their nails, drain them of fluids, scour their bodies for any exposed sharp bone fragments or anything, cover those up, and give the fighters tough, seamless body armor so they don't get any spatter on them."
Hehe.

SPOILER KINDA SORTA NOT REALLY
In the comic they did the fight club thing but it was with "prisoners" and it was to the death. The prisoners death that is.
The show totally bubble gummed it.

Zombie infection is a strange thing. Many times it appears that only a full-on bite will do the trick. However, many times a scratch does so as well. (TWD minor spoiler here) However, we can see in TWD that scratches can also do you in, as evidenced by Rick's reaction to the one prisoner getting scratched (end minor spoiler).
It does seem that blood-on-blood contact has very little effect, for some reason. This might be due to the natural of the zombie plague. Is it viral, bacterial? if it is, you'd think that such contact would cause infection. But this doesn't seem to pan out as the heroes go in hacking and slashing and bludgeoning, getting covered from head to toe in gore (and don't tell me they managed to keep their mouths closed the entire time).
Then there are times this contact does result in infection. Take 28 Days Later, where the "zombies" seem to infect either through vomiting blood all over the other person's face, or somehow achieving blood-blood (or to any sort of mucousal membrane) contact.
In the end, I think it just comes down to whether or not the plot calls for the person to become infected.

I don't get how the zombies manage to bite through someone's DENIM JEANS (Hershel). When they show stuff like that it often takes me out of the scene enough to be distracting.
