Top Ten Zombie Movies of All Time
Zombie Movies seem to be a popular niche in the film industry. Here is a list of the top 10 "must see" movies for any zombie enthusiast. In my many years I have watched numerous zombie related movies hundreds easily. (Some bad... some GREAT) Non zombie enthusiasts simply don't understand the passion and thrill that is associated with these films. I've met many people that are baffled by the love for zombies.

Yes, zombie movie making is an art. Think of the art that goes into the choreography of just a simple zombie scene. One that would make a dance choreographer pull their hair out. Working with a massive crowd of extras is hard enough but amateur extras all in make up is the hardest by far. One guy sneezes and he blows the whole scene. Imagine the difficulty with that. The make up preparation daily is a time consuming procedure. With all this said lets dive in.

I review these movies on a 4 brain system instead of stars with 4 being the highest and 1 being the lowest.
Here are the most prominent Zombie movies of all time according to me in importance.

10. Fido (2006) - This was a classic in all senses of the word. It takes pleasant ville to a whole new level. Taking place in post World war times the technology to subdue zombies to become slaves and make life easier is genius. People and zombies coexisting in your wildest dreams.

9. 28 Days Later (2002) The apocalyptic visions of an empty metropolis is amazing. Also a first the pictures of a vacant city alone plus the rage virus version lets this crack my top ten for originality and realism.

8. Shaun of the Dead (2004) One of the best Zombie comedies ever if not one of the funniest comedies ever. It pokes fun of the slow zombies and takes place in England.

7. Zombieland (2009) My favorite Zombie comedy hands down. Starring Woody Harrelson and guest appearance by Bill Murray. How could you go wrong? The movie mixed with amazing visuals and guideline to survival to a feel good love story this movie has it all.

6. White Zombie (1932) is the grandfather of the American zombie film, whose influence is felt everywhere from movies to music even being the influence to the band White zombie. surprisingly scary looking zombies, and an important lesson for all zombie movies to come. This movie is important because it fathered the shoot them i the head to kill theory enacted as a staple in all zombie movies regardless of what type of Zombie.

5. Zombie (1979) The best of the Italian zombie movies best know for it's underwater shark zombie scene. Arguably the most gruesome of all the Zombie movies.

4. Dawn of the Dead (2003) Remake Beside the fact that it takes place in a mall nothing is the same as the original. It breathes new life to the fresh zombie theory where zombies are able to run. A classic in its own right.

3. Night of the living Dead (1985) Remake Although Romero purists will argue against John Russo's post-Night-of-the-Living-Dead impact on the zombie movie genre, "The Return of the Living Dead" had an indelible impact. First, it featured fast-moving zombies. Second, it introduced the zombie motto "Brains!"

2. Night of the Living Dead (1968)- George a Romero first masterpiece was a classic instant classic. Taught the importance of fortifying and boarding up for an upcoming horde.

1. Dawn of the Dead (1978) Besides being born in 1978 this is my favorite film as it captured the imagination of a Zombie apaclypse. Turned it from horror to fantasy with the controlling of a mall and being able to get everything that you ever wanted.

Interesting list--though I think there a couple must see zombie films missing from it. 28 Weeks Later is superior to the first film in every way, and Cemetery Man is a must see for any zombie fan--one of the most underrated horror films. And Phantasm II--if you like your zombies looking like undead Jawas.

Not many people would agree with you that Weeks is better than Days. And of course Cemetery Man and any of the Phantasm films don't belong on a Top 10 Zombie Films of All Time list, heheheh.

I would say that none of the 28 films belong in the top anything zombie category considering that they're not true zombie films. They're not dead, don't eat people, can starve, killed by ordinary means, etc...

Your number 3 should be NotLD 91' :blowingsmoke:

White zombie, I know it's place in the genre but it's not a good movie, not even close. It would turn new fans off completely, It wouldn't be on my top 30.

Not a fan of Return of the Living Dead films but even I would put that on the list. It also introduced thinking zeds. :duh:

I actually enjoyed it.. one of the best older black-and-white voodoo zombie flicks (I Walked With A Zombie might be the best IMO). Hard to go wrong with Bela Lugosi. It's spooky and atmospheric. Better than one would expect. Your opinion that it's "not even close to a good movie" is entirely subjective, and this list seems to be more objective. In a top 10 zombie movies of all time, White Zombie does deserve a place on the list, though I wouldn't say it's mandatory.. it's not in my personal top 10 favorite zombie films of all time, but on a list such as this one, it could very well have a spot. Its historical importance alone gives it that.

Actually, number 3 should be Return of the Living Dead, which did come out in '85, and of course introduced the singular zombie motto "brraaaaiins," as it mentioned. He got "night" mixed up with "return." And I have no idea why "remake" is by it. Pretty egregious mistakes, heheheh, and no wonder it led to confusion..

Not a very good zombie list. Sorry. It's sad to see something like Zombieland getting mentioned over real zombie movies. And I couldn't stand Fido.
But of course Romero's films and Zombie are classics.

The list isn't long. We should be able in this genre to get more consistently good movies.

This list has a couple strange movies on it. Fido, White Zombie, and Zombieland don't belong on a top 10 list for me. Dawn remake is very close but I have a few problems with it that keep it off the top. The rest I agree with though. Here's my top 10 in no order:

Night of the Living Dead 68
Night of the Living Dead 90
Dawn of the Dead 78
Day of the Dead 85
Shaun of the Dead
Zombi 2
The Fog
28 Days Later
The Beyond
Dead Set

Very Honorable Mention - The Midnight Hour

Great list. I definitely agree with most of your zombie picks. 28 Days later was amazing and I would have moved it up the list a bit more. I never saw Fido cause I thought it looked stupid, but based on your list I might just check it out.

Heheheh, you say that as if there's only one correct list :-P And I'm not sure how Zombieland isn't a "real" zombie movie. Perhaps you're going by your own personal criteria.

Well...you're wrong.

Cemetery Man belongs in the top 5 of any zombie list. 28 Weeks Later far surpassed any of the crappiness of the original, and though Phantasm isn't a straight up zombie film, I'd still put it in over most entries because it is better, and it centers on the undead. Just in a different way.

Yeah I gotta tell ya, I jut watched the trailer for "Cemetery Man" and it looks awful. Return of the Living Dead probably would be better and I hated those ones. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say Phantasm is horrible too.

Without RotLD we wouldn't have one of the most important catchphrases in zombie history "Braaaaaaiiiiiiinnnnnnssssssss". :zombie1:

I don't consider Phantasm a zombie movie, but a movie with zombies in it (undead jawas as stated above). I personally liked it, and thought it was really entertaining. :2cents:

Seriously I've been a fan of zombie movies for over 30 years now. But as a kid ROTLD and this Cemetery Man flick are just horrible zombie movies. They might be witty and somewhat entertaining but any zombie that talks or does things that are not real are too cooky for me.

ZombieII
Cemetery Man
ROTLD
Evil Dead...These are more like comedys, a real zombie movie which I still dont think a really great one has ever been made dont do stuff like those movies. I thank any producer in the past 5-10 years who has made zombie movies because these new ones are at least watchable.

These 1980's zombie flicks are just ridiculous.
