Ok, so you are "that guy" the guy with 8 million rounds of ammo in his basement and titanium re-bars in his walls and windows. For the sake of argument let's say you have enough food, water and ammo that it's never going to run out.

You are trapped in your house, they aren't getting in, but you are the last person alive for miles round and literally the entire city population of millions is around your house trying to get at you. They keep coming. Your house is average size, but you do have a roof are to shoot from safely and line of sight for about a mile.

How do you start dealing with the zombies? You have a rifle of your choice with sights of your choice and enough ammo to keep shooting as long as you like, but the zombies also keep coming (maybe they are breeding).

If you shoot them near your house, the bodies start to pile up making a ramp for the zombies to get to you....... So what do you do? What pattern of shooting do you use?

If you're stocked up well enough and they can't get in then you'd probably be better off just laying low and staying quiet. Also if you're talking about millions then they'd probably end up trampling each other and creating a "ramp" anyway.

I doubt that millions would be able to be aware of your presence though. It's hard to imagine them all being drawn to the one spot like that. There'd be so many of them that they wouldn't know which direction to go to due to all the activity and noise they'd likely make. There might be a large amount that does mill about your house but if you stay quiet for long enough then they may end up moving on or being drawn away by all the zombie activity around them.

Forget the particulars, just go with it, its a nonsensical scenario anyway. No one has infinite food or infinite ammo. Pretty sure that cheat doesn't work in real life, or at least if it does no one told me. Or how about this, the zombies keep coming, doesn;t matter how or why, but they do, and you are running out of food, you need to get out some how, what do you do? What are your options?

It's hard to say what the particulars are when everything seems equally arbitrary. Max Brooks already sort of answered your question anyway, read The Battle of Hope.

In both scenarios, knowing how or why the zombies keep coming matters. If it's something you're doing, then it needs to be stopped. If, say, it's because you smell like bacon, then you can grab slabs of bacon from your infinite supply, and catapult them in a direction, and get ready to go the other way. Same thing if you have a limited supply and it's a cow they're hearing. Catapult the cow in one direction, and go the other way. "MOOooooo...!"


In the first scenario, i agree that it is better to lay low and stay quiet and let somebody or something else draw them away, instead of shooting at them, which is more likely to draw them near.

As for the second, it really depends on your area, and what you have on hand or can get before the zombies break through your defenses.

Yea if there are millions of zombies outside your house than your house is just going to be trampled into the ground under the sheer weight of them pressing in around you. Forget a ramp, they won't even need to ramp up unless your on top of a cliff or something. Just having a few thousand around your house would likely be enough to beat your walls down and have the whole house collapse just by having that many pressing in around you, no matter how well barricaded your windows and doors your walls are still just made out of wood, and brick. Also if you live in a city I highly doubt that you have a whole mile of line of sight in any direction without some kind of cover, and even if you did do you honestly think you can shoot that far accurately?

So on that note if you are alone and surrounded by that many and you do have "Infinite" supplies your best bet is really to just lay low until the isolation eventually drives you insane. Beyond that you should really probably just load up on supplies and get the hell out of dodge.

However, If you've got the time and supplies, and let's say the zombies can't even get to your house because it really is like some medieval castle on a cliff or something with a mile view of the city like you described, maybe you can spend your time digging yourself a series of tunnels so that you can pop up somewhere a few miles away from your "Main" house kill as many as can before your shoulder goes numb from the constant shooting, go home take a nap and then pop up somewhere else across town and kill as many as you can until eventually, if your ammo supply really is infinite, that they stop coming. Most likely going to end up being a lifelong endeavor to kill that many zombies, but hey... You've got nothing but time to dig tunnels, kill zombies, and slowly descend into madness.

Vorpal, that is heresy! I would rather be eaten alive than catapult my bacon (especicially Tactical Bacon!) in ANY direction, especially since I'd beat the zombies to where it landed. If I'm around it would be a good way to clear a path.

But it's been said, why bother? I'm safe inside with infinite food and water, there's nobody around for miles to rescue, I see no reason to do anything other than sit back and relax.

well i'd do that thing that i came up with but never had the idle time to actually try.
utilizing hundreds of little mirrors and California's strong hot sunlight, I'd build a parabolic dish (several of them would be nice) death ray to cook zombies to death about 100 yards away. the whole setup would focus enough sunlight to melt bricks and engine blocks 100 yards away. zombies that are hit with the ray would be heated to incandescence, then turn to ash.

Gotta be honest in that scenario I'd lay low, even if I did have the ammo to take them all down I doubt I'd open fire.

After time of not making any noise and the zombies were still at it I may try to tunnel into the sewer, make my way out and set up further away from civilization
