every horror movie has it's location that is awesome, what location do think makes a great horror movie, my choice would be an asylum, because they are often delapidated buildings, cobwebs, and rats

I went with an asylum too.
There's cool films that a mental hospital is the main location like Session 9, Madhouse(2000's film), The Sender(from the 80's), Asylum(from the 70's), Alone in the Dark(1982), etc......
Then there's slashers like Halloween that have a mental hospital as part of there story that the killer escapes from.

I voted house, as in the house in Night of the Living Dead or Evil Dead movies.

I went with Woods cause i love slashers like the original Friday the 13th films, The Burning & Sleepaway Camp where a lot of the action happens in the woods.

I voted woods also. Some of the other locations that were listed are certainly cool and appropriate, such as house, mansion or prison. I don't see who railroad tracks or a school would be creepy, but I guess that is a matter of individual preference. There is one location that was not listed in the poll that I think should have received a fair shake. That location is a creepy, abandoned small town. What do you think about a small town, perhaps abandoned.....or not entirely? ..... mmmmmmhahahahaha (that's my evil, lunatic fringe laugh for those of you playing at home)!!!

I voted house. There is nothing better than a remote house in the middle of nowhere to set a good scene. It gives you just enough of civilization to make the actors try and fearfully cling to it for shelter and safety while the audience knows that it's likely anything but that. There is a certain psychological effect to having four walls and a roof that makes the average person feel safer and more at ease which makes it all the more terrifying when they realize that all they've done is put themselves inside a wood box and waited for their doom to come to them.

Hey Brian(MorbidVision), what is your fave film location since you make movies?

I voted woods. The fact that they can be dark even during the day, varying shadows and continous noises, ground uneven full of dips, ridges, and no clear view for any distance, zombies being upon and around you before you know it. Also the fact it creates disorientation, meaning you could be running to, rather than away from zombies.

Now that is unsettling.
Really the location is incidental, unless it's a major part of the story. Like a haunted house movie or something. Asylums are very spooky, but if you're watching a horror movie that takes place in an asylum, that's a huge integral part of the plot (House on Haunted Hill for instance), and it's "one of those asylum horror flicks." Whereas with something like High Tension, it took place in a house, the woods, a car, a gas station, etc.
So! With all that being said, I voted house. Something about very creepy and scary things happening inside the familiarity and close quarters of a house is spooky to me. Especially scenes where somebody is trying to escape by running up stairs, and the bad guy grabs their legs (Evil Dead and House by the Cemetery come to mind) give me the freakin heebie jeebies. Rose Red was near terrifying to me at times.

I voted house, and by that I mean a house in a normal suburban neighborhood.
When considering this, I think of one of the things that made the original Halloween so scary...it was set right where most people lived.

I voted woods, I'm also a sucker for Friday the 13th movies (even the bad ones) so that could impact my decision. Just the notion that not only is it (insert creepy horror movie bad guy here) versus (insert dumb protagonists here), it's also nature versus (insert dumb protagonists here). The woods are like another force against the good guys, they're easy to get lost in, they're riddled with safety hazards, and they always look creepy as hell.
