I would save the mechanic for reasons that I do not even understand.

I'd also like to say I'm proud that nobody answered option E, "nobody". There may be hope for the human race yet. I'd also like to say the more I think about it the more just choosing at random makes sense. You're not going to be able to just walk into a store to get lumber, spark plugs, seeds, medical supplies or anything for the people to work with, so they're all pretty much useless. I'd save whoever was closest and then maybe they could help me save the next person and so on. It would at least be worth a try.

Farmer for the following reasons. (Gardener, not so much)

1: All the farmers around here have guns and know how to shoot.

2: They won't be squeamish. Farmers by their nature can't be afraid to get their hands dirty, and if you have ever worked on a farm during lambing season, that shit is not pretty. Having to deal with sick and dying animals regularly hardens the soul a little. (Nurse was a close second for this reason + the obvious)

3: Farmers, around here at least tend to be jack of all trades themselves. They don't stop everything just because something breaks, they often find ways to jury rig and fix things themselves. Your crops won't stop growing and wait for you to get that new part.

I'm looking at this from the point of me having to roll with this person indefinitely. Farmers are used to getting things done when they need to be done. Lazy farmers don't last very long.

The least useful for me would be carpenter. A lot of the things that they can make and build such as housing, doors, cabinets etc I could also do, to a very, very poor standard, but functionally it would work. Look awful, and not last as long, but it would work.
