Its been seven years since George Romero's Land of the Dead has come out. How would you rate it now as a classic zombie movie next to Night/Dawn/Day of the Dead? Back in 2006-2008 here at ATZ Land of the Dead had started many of flame wars. It made the UDS&D section look tame with the arguements that went on here about George Romero's fourth dead film.. I was in the thick of it backing up my man George Romero all the way. I allmost got banned a few times, but it was worth it defending the zombie god Romero. Most liked it, a few hated it. So round and round we went here at ATZ about Land of the Dead.
Yes even with Big Daddy (The Jar Jar Binks of zombies) not eating any human flesh, and his annoying roar, Land of the Dead rates three stars in my book.

It was pretty good. Was a bit disappointed at first. Never liked the sympathetic to zombies angle. After a few viewings though it's grown on me. I would have liked to see Big Daddy be portayed as more of a villain. I would have liked to see him use his intelligence to send his zombie posse in as cannon fodder to shield him rather than wanting to help them and teach them. I would also have liked to see him eat somebody.

Well, it doesn't come close to being what the OT was, so, it's the best of the crappy NT.

I gave it a 3. I loved seeing it in the theater and I think it gets better with each viewing. It's not as good as the original trilogy, but it's still a quality zombie film. Unlike Diary of the Dead.

Land of the Dead was a good movie. It was Romero's most recent movie, Survival of the Dead, which did not resonate with me at all. Thought Survival of the Dead was Romero's clunker. Hope Romero can redeem himself with a new movie into the Dead series.

Hopefully with AMC's The Walking Dead being so sucessful the studios will work with GR and get some more Dead films made. If they are good or bad its no big deal to me being a huge zombie fan anything that George Romero does is a plus in my book. Im a huge fan of late 1970s, and 1980s horror, so even bad horror is good.

I hear you. I think the 80s horror movies had a certain "swagger" to them, in the sense that many of them from that decade could successfully mix suspense/drama, chills and, of course, a little comic relief. Bad horror movies from any decade, on the other hand, just can't keep my interest. Guess I am getting picky in my mature years, but if a movie is not rated with at least three stars (on a scale of one to five), chances are good my eyeballs won't see it. Too many other things I could be doing. I gave Survival of the Dead a shot because I like Romero's work, but it was a movie that I don't plan on ever watching again.

I gave it 2 stars, given the rating system provided ("good").
I would strongly suggest the next time you watch the film, to watch the FanEdit version.. it takes out some of the more outrageous, silly parts, and tries to make it more of a straight-up zombie flick. Personally, I like it better than the original.
"An ambitious fanedit to keep LOTF more in line with the three previous Romero Dead Films. Reduced is the Zombies reasoning and lots of obvious special make-up effects. The level of gore and carnage has been increased. Finally this is a trure Romero Zombie movie."
