Bearing in mind this is just a hypothetical situation and not real, except in our imaginations, I give you a gruesome choice:
If the one you love and cherish the most, were to be bitten and become one of those things, would you leave them to walk as the dead or ould you kill them?
Could you honestly feel right, knowing that your 'loved one' is out there walking around eating people and looking like that?
Would you be able to finish them, or would you get someone else to do it for you?
Or if you have another alternative, what is it?

Tie them up and wait for the change... then shot to the head.

Might take that approach myself. After all maybe your immune. I also liked Roger's approach to it in DoTD. If at all possible I'd like to try not to come back myself, if there is some supernatural aspect to it, it might be possible.

The merciful thing to do in my mind is to end it for that undead loved one. I don't see any alternative then to keep my loved ones from becoming a flesh eating zombie.

The one way to avoid being bitten by one of them is to not have them around u so the only option is to kill them i dont know if id even wait for them to turn...lets face it when loved ones are involed sometimes emotion takes over and thats when u would get bitten through being lapsy daisy im not saying it would be easy so i wouldnt risk it id tie them up and kill them immediatley....theres no way i wanna be a brain chaser.

We would have talked about it before, so whatever they wanted me to do. Sometimes people want to change first and then be shot, to be alive until the bitter end. Sometimes people want to be shot before they turn. But they would be put down eventually.
Me, I want to be shot a few hours after I change, if possible, so I can know how the other side unlives.

Depends if they were trying to hide it or not. If I knew the person was infected I might let them choose, if not I think I would be angry.

Yep, I think most agree that killing them would be the best thing to do.
One thing I'm sure we will all make sure of is that we don't let some softy talk us into letting them live and stay with us, or just carry them and transport them round with us like they did with that big fat momma in Dawn of the Dead. I thought that was ridiculous and unfortunately would be quite common if ever such an outbreak was to occur.
I'd say that one of the biggest causes of death in the first few days of an apocalypse aside from the obvious zombie hordes, would be loved ones succumbing to loved ones and friends etc. People just don't have it in them when it comes down to it and it ends up with them being feasted upon by their best friend or mother!
I'd lock em up, wait for the turn while treating them with as much care as I could, before killing them in some way, perhaps a knife through the eye-socket, probably after hours and hours of psyching myself up.

In DotD '04, i think it was still somewhat early when they didn't yet know anything about the virus or how it was spreading.
Letting them live and stay isn't a problem if they can be secured. A thought just occurred to me. If you saw the extras on the DotD '04 dvd, they showed a female zombie being harassed by a bunch of dumbasses. She was wearing a football helmet to prevent her from biting.

But if I remember correctly the helmet ended up coming off enough for her to sink her teeth into the douchebag who was gonna try to rape her.

You might be right. I haven't watched the movie and extras for ages.
There are possibly ways to make it more secure. Some sort of head harness or mouth guard would be necessary if a group decided to allow a bitten person to stay a bit longer with the group.
