Dawn of the Dead 2004 Prequel

Taken from a post I wrote but thought I would make it a Blog in the event of new ideas:

Instead of re-envisioning the remake I think that a prequel to it would work fairly well. In my prequel the film would start roughly about the same time DOTD '04 starts as Anna goes home in the evening. But instead of fast-fowarding to the next morning where Anna experiences what had taken place in the last 8 to 10 hours, the prequel would take during that time period (Being that as Anna is driving home the first reports of the outbreak are coming over the radio). The characters encountered in DOTD '04 would all have interesting enough back stories leading up to when we see them in the film.

In no particular order or appearance:

Kenneth - Kenneth is already on duty and local law enforcement are beginning to receive reports of unprovoked attacks on civilians and random acts of violence. Obviously being that Everett has a population of 750,000 people, local law enforcement would be overwhelmed if even half of the population would begin to panic and riot (Using my hometown of Dayton, OH as an example there are approximately 141, 527 people with roughly a total of roughly 300 patrol officers. This breaks down to about 1 patrol officer for every 141 people if every officer is called in and reports). Kenneth himself is overwhelmed as he tries to both rationalize what is going on as well as help those who are caught up in it. Along the way he has to ditch his patrol car, either from blocked traffic or an accident, and must flee on foot after losing his service pistol and having only a shotgun to protect himself. While traversing the city and it's undead citizens he discovers that Fort Pastor is a safe zone and manages to contact his brother to arrange their rendevous.

Michael - Michael is working at Best Buy at the time the initial outbreak occurs. Similar to Shaun of the Dead as he is showing a potential customer a television all the channels begin to show riot and destruction footage throughout the city. As the situation begins to become worse, the manager decides to lock the store down. While most of the customers and employees vacate the store a few remain: Michael, Andre, Luda and five others including the manager of the store and the Loss Prevention Manager (referring to Michael stating, "Back when there was eight of us" in DOTD '04. It is there that they first encounter zombies and decide to try and make it to Fort Pastor after seeing the report on the televisions.

CJ, Bart , Terry and Ben Cozine- All four are at the Crossroads Mall at the time of the initial outbreak. As a precaution the mall is evacuated and the small security team begins to lockdown the mall. In Metropolis they begin to finalize the lockdown procedures when they see a male housekeeper dressed in a blue jumpsuit begin to attack what few people are left. The security team run to elevators to escape when Ben Cozine turns and stops. He and CJ begin to argue on what to do and CJ warns him not to return to Metropolis. Ben Cozine runs back towards the carnage while CJ and the rest return to the elevators.

Norma, Glen, Tucker, Monica, Steve, Frank, Nicole and Bloated Wheelbarrow Woman Who is Played by a Man - While this group of survivors obviously have a plethora of survivor stories I feel that their story may be the weakest of the prequel scenarios. Obviously there would be some back story on Norma getting to her truck and the rest fighting their way to the church, their escape and ultimately to the Crossroads Mall.

Anna and Luis - They sleep. C'mon. We know what they were doing when everyone was getting eaten and torn apart. :woop:

And there won't be a new ending or anything like that. More than likely it would fade to black the second Kenneth racks his boomstick when he finds Anna essenitally tying it straight into DOTD '04. Also toying around the with the idea that the Beretta that Andre has was actually Kenneth's service pistol that he drops along the way and Andre finds.

Just an idea.

I like this idea. I don't really see this ever being made into a movie but I could definitely see this being done as a comic. A comic could also allow Norma's group to get a more in-depth look at their backgrounds as well.
If it ends with Kenneth meeting Ana then his story could be the last and most action packed of the lot, providing an exciting end to the overall story.

I like prequels...they don't have enough serious movies with this.

I would go see this in the theater because I guarantee it would be entertaining for me at the least.
