zombie Cold Flesh: zombie anthology

Cold Flesh: A new zombie anthology from Hellbound Books containing gruesome fiction by a “great line-up of talent” (Brian Keene). Contributors include Tim Curran, J.F. Gonzalez and Stoker-winning author John Everson.

In my story “Limbless Bodies Swaying,” a vampire competes against zombies for the last man alive. Editor Paul Fry calls it “gory, violent and creepy,” and author Brian Keene “dug the hell out of it!”

For story summaries, read the reviews by Lee Pletzers and Mark Justice, as well as my interview with Editor Paul Fry. For author bios and other information, visit the Cold Flesh website.

Ask the authors: From September 26 to January '06, members of ATZ asked Cold Flesh contributors about writing and other related topics. One author was available each week, Monday through Saturday. Here are the links to those sessions:

J.F. Gonzalez | Jennifer Loring | Tim Johnson | Reginald Bloom | John Rector | Gene Stewart | John Everson | Marc Paoletti |
D.L. Snell | Ron Shiflet | Kevin A. Christinat | Rebecca Brock | Dan Brodribb | Robert Morrish |James Cain

Contests: See the results of our Halloween Costume Contest.

Speak your mind: Feel free to review Cold Flesh on this thread. You can criticize, but please nothing inflammatory.

I have a story in the COLD FLESH anthology that is set in the same world as my "voodoo adulterous curse" story "Vigilantes of Love" from my short story collection of the same title. I'm hoping people enjoy the new tale. If anyone on the board picks up COLD FLESH, do let me know!

Hi, I'm Gene Stewart, and I've got a story in Cold Flesh to heat things up a bit. Here's the teaser from my website, at www.genestewart.com:

Cold Flesh, the anthology of zombie stories, (as opposed to Cold Flesh, the new flavor of frozen confection from Romero Splatter Products), is out now from Hellbound Books, (www.hellbound.com), featuring my story, "Zombie Love". The book is solid with a whopping 461 pages of great zombie fiction. At forty cents a story, that's a hell of a bargain. And these stories come at the whole notion of zombies from so many angles it's a guarantee you'll be surprised, delighted, and maybe freaked out. Read it at your own risk, but remember the house rules: You damage it, you replace it.

More than that I shouldn't say but I will offer this one extra hint: Wear a raincoat. Probably won't help at ALL but it's sure not going to hurt any.

My story is in Cold Flesh also under my real name Lee Pletzers.

I loved the book so I wrote the following about it:

Cold Flesh was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Only 1 story was bad (and it was AWFUL) but it's got over 300 pages of very cool Zombie fiction. As a writer I didn't like the fact that the book title and editor's name was on every page. Grandstanding and all that. I also would have liked tosee the author's info featured in a bio of some sort. All the book has is 1 page with the writer's email addresses. It's the writers and not the ditor that make that antho special. Also, you forget who wrote which story because the story title and author are missing. Everson's story is great and so is Shiflett's and Snell's

I'm nearly finished with Cold Flesh. I have perhaps 60 pages left. I originally intended on reviewing each story as I read them, however that didn't happen. I'll try to take the time to go back through each story when I've finished and write a short review. I just hope that by offering my honest opinion I don't upset anyone.

Overall, I've really enjoyed the book so far and I feel it was well worth the price. In a way I hate to see it end. Some stories were fantastic and some ended too soon. A couple weren't great (keeping in mind that one person's "great" isn't always the same as another's) and one story I can think of had an interesting idea, but really bad dialog.

I agree with Big John H about the annoyance of the title and editor's name being on every page instead of the individual story title and author's name. If I'm reading a story that I enjoy in a collection my eyes tend to flick to the top of the page to see what it was called and who wrote it. That didn't work so well with this. I suppose that might not have been helped depending on the options that were available when publishing.

I also agree that a bio page or blurb about each author would have been nice, however if it meant cutting out some of the stories then perhaps not.

When I get around to the reviews, should I post them here?

My contribution to the collection is the short story ON EARTH AS IT IS.

I'd like to thank everyone who has bought a copy of COLD FLESH and shared their thoughts and opinions.

Hello all...

I have a story in "Cold Flesh" as well ("Ground Floor"--the one in the elevator) and now I'm a nervous wreck waiting to hear which stories everyone disliked!

I sent a brief bio to D.L., so I won't bore everyone with the details here. I'm just glad to be among my fellow zombiephiles (yeah, I know that 'necrophile' might be a slightly more appropriate term, but I like the zed-word).

Comments about "Ground Floor" are vastly appreciated, so if you hated it or liked it or just felt kinda 'meh' about it...let me know. Just remember that I cry easily (ha-ha...kidding. Sorta.)

Again, great to be here. I love this site.

My story "Menage A Trois" is the last story in the book. It's an honor to be included in an anthology with so many good writers. Hope you all enjoy the book.

Hi ZombieQueen, I really liked Ground Floor. It ended too soon.
