Default My review of HATER by David Moody

The first thing I want to say about this book is, GO BUY IT!!!!! I'm serious, get your shoes on, find the car keys and go to the closest bookstore to you. If you're out of gas or the kids need watching, BUY IT ONLINE!!!! You have to read this book. Not only that, but don't be cheap buy the hardback copy! It's so much nicer, and I think that the format and feel of the hardback is why I flew through it so fast.

Anyone who is a fan of Moody's other books is going to crap their pants when they read this one! It is a classic Moody style book with very very detailed character descriptions and details. This book makes you feel like you are the main character. I didn't hate my job until I read this book. The only reason I hate it now is because of how Moody describes the main character, Danny McCoyne's absolute loathing of his job and mundane life. It makes you realize how much your job really sucks. That's not the point though. The point is Moody is so mind-blowing in how he makes you reflect on the story as if it were happening to you.

This book is so easy to read, and flows like the warm blood of a fresh cut. The book doesn't get too exciting until farther into the mayhem that is happening to society. One by one people start freaking out and killing each other for no apparent reason. It seems these people are just lashing out randomly. As more and more attacks start happening, and it becomes a life or death situation just to go to the quick mart, people start really getting scared. What do you do when you can no longer trust anyone? How do you act when anyone, even your own children can turn on you in an instant and will stop it nothing to put you dead on the floor? When your own family and friends can no longer be trusted to remain safe, how do you react? When you see your neighbor beating his wife and setting her on fire in the driveway, what do you do?

What it comes down to, is who's really to blame? Who's the bad person here? Is it the Haters? Or is it everyone else? The killing is only happening because of self defense. Kill or be killed is the new moto of this life or death world. You kill them before they kill you. Is that really so wrong? Is it really such a terror to kill someone because you know in your soul that if you don't, they're just going to kill you? Never give them even a second to try. Kill them. Don't let them even think of trying to get you first. Is that really so bad? Kill them, save yourself.

Bottom line is there's a war going on here. We are at an all out, full fledged massacre here. We walk the streets on constant enemy lines, trying to survive. There's military and all sorts of "official forces" everywhere, but can you trust them? Are they the good guys, or are they the bad guys? The only way to tell is to look them in the eyes and find that hatred and loathing. Only then will you know what your next move will be. Friend or foe? live or die?

So how about it? Are you a Hater?

I give this book 4 1/2 out of 5 skulls.

I know right? Moody has definitely struck gold on this one! I was so excited to find out the Guillermo Del Toro was going to make this film. I absolutely love his work and think that he will make this movie HUGE! It's going to be gorgeous, I can't wait until they get started and finish!

Anyone notice my cameo in this novel? The guy Simmons at the start was based on me.

Here's the evidence:

That's funny because the thought actually crossed my mind as I was going through.

Congrats on your spot in the story!

totally agree with UseYourHeadCutOffTheirs...I found myself really thinking and going back and forth. I don't know if everyone will like it as much as we do, but it is worth finding out.

I rented it at my local library, and I have to say it's really good.

Looking forward to the sequel!

I just started reading this book a few days ago. (I've had it for a while, but was involved in other novels.) It started out very slow...I am a little more than half way through it, and it is just starting to get interesting. I am a bit let down by this, because I liked the Autumn novels so much. Hopefully it will continue to get better, or I am not sure I will pick up the sequels!
