Survival Situations
You were being evacuated from the city by the military. Just about a mile out from the city, the miliary convoy is attacked by rebelious civilians. The convoy is destroyed, and your vehicle is vulnerable. The zeds leaving the city are gaining on you, and there is no shelter in sight, what do you do?
(Nearby is a large forest on one side of the road, and on the other side is a farm field with freshly planted wheat. You know for a fact that there is a river in the forest.) |

I personally would try my luck back in the city. Even though there will be hundreds of zeds along my way, I'd rather try and go back than to test my wilderness survival skills in the country side. I would try to work my way through the back alleys of the city, which would narrow down my encounters.

First of all, I wouldn't have gone with the evacuation crowd. I'd have bailed on that town LONG before it got to that point. Hell, my town doesn't even have zombies yet and I'm ready to run away.
And if they were evacuating wherever I went after that, well, let's just say I wouldn't be there if I thought they had a cold chance in hell of getting me back out. But since that's not the point, I'll get to what is and answer your question. Now I'm going to assume that the attackers have moved on, since your own answer didn't express any plan to deal with them. First things first: I'd grab an M16 and a bunch of ammo off one of the dead soldiers, and any other supplies he had (hopefully some MRE's in there!) Second step: I'd head for the woods. I arrived at that choice by process of elimination. My options are: Head into the wheat field, head back into the city, or try to make it on my own to wherever the convoy was going. Option one: Wheat field. I have just one question... why would you go there? Sure, there's wheat. Which could become food, if you had all day. Problem is, you don't have all day. There's also the slight problem of not being able to see. You could be running through the wheat, right into the arms of a zombie and not even know it. Wheat field: Definitely out. Option two: Back into the city. NEVER GO TO THE CITY! Thats where people are, so that's where the infection is. I read what you said about back alleys. I don't think it would help. People avoid alleys because they're dark and off the beaten trail. Zombies don't care, and they'll shamble to wherever their mindless feet take them. Including alleys. Option three: Keep moving to the original destination. If going where zombies already are is the worst idea you've ever had, then going to where living, panicking, angry, yet still intelligent people are soon going to be is the worst idea you ever will have. Throw in the fact that at least one of those people is bound to turn into a zombie as soon as the place is too crowded to escape, and we have a no-go. So that only leaves option four: Head into the woods. The river could be an endless water source, assuming you had something to boil water in before you drink. The plants and animals would provide food, and since most of the area's survivors are dead or running off towards the evacuation point... drawing all the zeds with them... you could probably hide in a tree until the danger passed. |

Yeah, I'll take my chances in the woods. The farm and the remains of the convoy can be raided for supplies that could tide one over until the city quiets down.

Um, my idea...it's kinda ok I guess... say fortify your home and stick it there for a few days or however long it'll take.

Your house could be a death trap depending on how deep it is in the city.

Well, I didn't take the element of the city into account, n/m.

I would probably have to go with woods. You can set tras with wood, build fires with the wood, use the river as a moat, hunt the animals, whatever. the thing is if u stay in the city, you'll probably get overwhelmed by its size, twists and turns, and population of zach there. The wheat field could be used to gather wheat for food if you need some in the woods, and if you keep going, youl probably run into a corrupt military convoy or more zachs. The woods is the best choice

What are my surroundings? Are there windows or trees around the house? Are the survivors in a safe, even more strongly secured place?
If there are windows in the back, I would try and get them in the head with my AK, then climb down and run for my car. |

Well, since the back of the house isn't secure, I wouldn't suggest staying there. There's only 12 zombies out back and you've got a high capacity rifle with lots of spare magazines. I'd say...
Fight my way out the back and bail on the place. If those other survivors have a good shelter, I might consider joining up with them. It would really depend on what their group was like, though. At any rate, I'd definitely try to make it to their location and at least learn something about them. |
