Luckily, there is a Dunhams sporting goods store nearby.

They sell anything from a .22, to a 7.62.
Or from a .308 winchester, to a 5.56mm.

Its a little expensive, but money is useless in zed-world.

I had sworn off posting here but I can't stand this thread any longer.
It's not the slugs, you can cast them from wheel weights
It's not the powder you can make black powder.
It's the primers and or percussion caps!

Once they are gone you are going to be screwed.

Another problem is the efficiency of the powder. After a while, it might not work as efficiently as when it was first made and will produce less propulsion when exploding.

Humidity might make your stash as good as a dool against gnashing teeth of the living dead. Might as well keep the few bullets you have in a good environment then stashing up and winding with having a big pile of nothing.

thats why i have 2 crossbows, as well as multiple firearms, and as an experiment i ve made bolts out of many things,(even used welding rods)and as long as im bunkered up i should be able to have ammo for a long time

Yep. Once the primers/caps are gone it is time for for flintlocks.

I am lucky in the aspect that almost every cop in AZ carries 40 s&w rounds

I also have a thirty thirty ....which is one of the more popular hunting rifles around

and if all else fails I keep a walther p22 handy and can easily carry 5000+ rounds

As far as magazines go this is why Revolvers and Shotguns are GREAT. They have internal magazines so theres no EXTRA loading or loosing of mags..

Thus putting ammuntion conservation at the forefront. Availability of ammo is different for each individual, but in a full on zed world, I think it would be a good long time before there was absolutly none to be found. By that time, the Zpop should be low enough to start re-building anyway.
As for re-smelting and the such, I'd have switched to the composite or long bow before that was an option (based on my skillset).

22 caliber is probably the most readily availbale ammo. You can go to almost any store and find atleast 10 different brands of 22 ammo. Not to mention its cheap and small.

But in a shotgun you only have the One magazine spring. And you have to manually load it mid fight. If that spring fails, or you load a round backward in all the excitement, things could get bad. Given a long enough timeline, all magazine springs fail.

But if you have 12 mags to choose from with a rifle, you could loose 3, damage 6, and still have 2 left (60 rounds) to handle business. Redundancy can be a good thing sometimes.

On a long enough timeline, everything fails.

We only have three magazines for my .45, and my rifle is loaded via stripper clips, conservation of ammo is going to be a very smart choice for me.

How many rounds of x39 do you have?
It can be found as low as 17 cent a round now.

We've got about 1000 rounds at this point of the 762x39 and somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 rounds for the .308.

We've got about 4,500 7.62x39 at the moment. Didn't get them for 17 cents a round though.
