Default Dawn of the Dead 1978 or 2004?

This might be the biggest question ever asked here at ATZ? What is your personal favorite Dawn of the Dead 1978 or Dawn of the Dead 2004?

Both are good movies but I voted for Dawn of the Dead 78.

78.

I like 2004, but I have to go with 78.

There are some individual scenes in 78 that are of lower quality, and it has pacing and structure issues, but it's still the best.

I think it better depicts the collapse of resistance to the dead when system defenders decide that it's time for every man for himself. All of that happens in the 2004 version when the characters are asleep, which is kind of a gyp.

No contest. 78 has it hands down.

I went with 78 as well. Some of the actors were very cheesy. (however I think the lead actor were fine) but I liked how they cooperated and fortified the mall. Both were really good though.

this is a tough one. 78 a definate classic or 04, fast paced and exciting. i almost wasn't going to reply. but i had to go with 04 in the end. i've seen 78 an enormous amount of times so i guess 04 is still relatively new to me. also more and more i'm finding myself leaning towards fast, demonic zombies as opposed to the slow ones. as much as dawn78 is an iconic classic and was the movie that really solidified my addiction to zombie movies, 04 is more what i seek these days, not just in zombie movies, but movies in general. pace, excitement and much greater odds against the characters survival.

I love both versions of this movie, but it has to be the original. Although you have to give credit to the remake for knowing the original story couldn't be beaten, so it went in a different direction that was just as good.

Really, this is almost too close to call for me. I love the original (which scared the crap out of me as a kid), but the newer one scared me in 04 when I saw it in the theaters. I still watch both, but voted for 04. If a "tie" was an option, I'd of picked that.

I voted for the '78 one, mostly cause I love Romero and Savini (did I spell that right lol) is a make-up legend but in saying that the opening to the remake is just immense

I've been ingoring this thread for a while now, but I can't hold it anymore.
I choose both.

Dawn of the Dead 78 - 2nd most influential zombie movie of all time, Great charactor development, and traditional zombies.

Dawn of the Dead 04 - Lots of action and blood, and more relative humor.

I went with Dawn of the Dead 78. I probilly have seen it 50+ times, and I never get tired of ot. The european cut is the best, you get to see Joe Pilato in a longer scene. DOTD 04 was great to, but I dont think its as great as the original. Im old, I had seen it when it 1st came out at the theaters in 1978, I was 9, it got me into horror movies. I have seen it about a dozen times at midnight showings, and at drive ins.
