View Full Version : What Made the Zombies Rise?
Zombie-A-GoGo

Hi folks...I was wondering if you can help me/show off your zombie film knowledge. :) I wasn't sure where to put this, but since it's referring to specific zombie films, I figured I'd put it here.
Anyway, as part of a paper I am writing, I need to cite films and how the zombies became re-animated. Now, I either haven't seen the following titles, or it's been more than a year or two since I've seen them and I just don't remember the specifics of the re-animation. I've already done numerous titles from the 1930's through the 1990's. So, these will just be from 2000 on. Here's the list:
-All Soul's Day
-Boy Eats Girl
-Feast of the Funky Disco ZOmbies
-Freak Out
-House of 1,000 Corpses
-House of the Dead
-House of the Dead 2
-The Meat Market Movies
-Mortuary
-Mulva: Zombie Asskicker!
-Plaga Zombie: Zona Mutante
-Return of the Living Dead 4
-Return of the Living Dead 5
-Risen
-Rotten Shaolin Zombies
-Shaun of the Dead
-Slither
-Stacy
-Tamara
-Undead
-Versus
-Wild Zero
-The Special Dead Vampires vs. Zombies
I'm looking for reasons such as voodoo/occult, virus/plague, chemical, radiation, etc. Whatever you can tell me would be appreciated. While I'd like to watch and rewatch all of these, I've got a deadline and need to find this out relatively quickly. Thanks!

I haven't seen all these films either, but I did see some of them and know what the causes are.
House of 1000 Corpses- Not a zombie movie.
House of the Dead- Voodoo.
Shaun of the Dead- Didn't say what the cause was. I think it's mutated crops or something.
Slither- Aliens.
Tamara- Witch craft.
Sorry that I don't have much info, but at least it might help a little.

"These are the only ones I'm sure of...
-All Soul's Day: Curse
-House of 1,000 Corpses: VC is right. Not Zombies.
Nuclear Contamination:
-Return of the Living Dead 4
-Return of the Living Dead 5
"If I find out more I'll let you know. Unless someone else answers your question first." ;-)

Try looking up the other flicks at IMDb.com There's a chance that there will be some mention of what cause the zombies to turn.

Boy Eats Girl (GREAT IRISH FLICK, hence my chosen one) involved more pesky dabbling in the dark arts.... I think it was ancient voodoo, to be more specific...
Tut-tut, what would the vicar say... :naughty:

It actually says that they have ruled this out. It was a reference to 28 Days Later

Thanks for everyone's input. My plan is to also go through imdb, but this has probably saved me some time in a way. Hard to explain why, but I think it did. :)

Ya, they said that they had ruled that out and that the cause of the out break was from the result of using highly dangerous cemicals or somethingv.

"Perhaps if you could find out more about this.....
"A comic strip prequel to the film featuring the transformation of Mary, the zombie that the boys find in their garden appeared in prog 1384 of UK comic 2000AD. The story, which was entitled “There’s Something About Mary” was written by Pegg and Wright"
......You could find the answer." :)
"I found this quite interesting as well."

-Undead - Aliens again...
Actually, it's meteorites. The aliens are there to help.
Feast of the Funky Disco ZOmbies - This is a weird one. They're reanimated because a rapper samples an old disco song without permission, and when you listen to the song, disco dancers come back from the dead to kill you.
Mulva: Zombie Ass Kicker - Not explained. They just show up on Halloween.

in Shaun of the dead, the cause is Irradiated crops from a downed satelite.

i think that was just speculation on TV? i'd have to watch again to refresh my memory. but either way, that's really just a couple of winks towards Let Sleeping Corpses Lie and Night Of The Living Dead, wouldn't you say?
And the ruled out monkey bite references 28 Days later and Dead Alive.
And I think Vision is right about the meteorites being responsible in Undead. I don't think there was a clear explanation, but it seems probable. And yeah, the aliens were there to help.
