Do you think that NOTLD 90 is a good remake of the original NOTLD? What do you think of the movie? I thought it was pretty good, I put it in my top 10 all time zombie movies.

It stayed close enough to the original, but also had some nice changes

I liked the ideal that they made Barbara's charactor strong, instead of some blubbering waste case, and that she survived, and shot Mr. Cooper in the head at the end. I all so liked the zombies make-up, how they walked, and how they acted. I know this is only a wishful thinking, but I wish that Tom Savini would make, and Direct another zombie movie.

I agree that it was a worthy remake, and the changes with its characters made the movie more intriguing without comprising the original plot... The only problem I had with the Zombies themselves is that they moved super-slow... They were so slow in fact, Barbara could just walk right past them with little of no problem.

I think it's one of the best movie remakes ever.

I hear Tom Savini hated this movie.

I thought it was everything you could want in a remake, until the end. I was stunned when I first saw the original. The only survivor killed when mistaken for a ghoul was one of the best high-impact endings I had ever seen in a film....so you could imagine my disappointment when it was replaced with a soft and fluffy resolution.

Having the timid heroine, who spent the first part of the movie screaming and crying, become a weapons expert and cold-blooded killer by movies end just reeked of what we get served up in every Hollywood blockbuster.

An excellent first half let down by its finale. Still...a lot of directors doing remakes at the moment could learn a lot from Savini's effort.

I thought it was okay... but as a remake of the original? No. Doesn't even touch the 68 version.

Too much 80's cheese... and I didn't like Barbara's reincarnation as a gun-toting Ramboette :scare:

Nothing really beats the original - I like originals. BUT, this was excellent! True to the original, but Barbara was changed to be tough! Loved it.

lol im not getting in this debate, theres plenty of films that can beat the originals, just the originals are always going to be just that original.

Yea it was defiantly a good remake. I found the part where Barbara was crying with that zombie right next to her pretty funny. Then she shot her. :guns:

True, for me anyway.

I respect the original, of course. But I find myself watching the remake more and more.

The music is great too

I wouldn't say plenty, maybe one or two, either way this isn't one of them. Sure the remake of Notld is a quality movie, but surpass the original? No chance

The improvements made on the remake was more or less an updating of the film to fit into early nineties society.
It can't take away from the original by any means but it is an incredibly good film in it's own right.
I can't/won't debate as to whether it's better than the original because both films have an impact for the time period they were released. Both have scenes that stand out and both have their own social commentary aimed at the time period they were released.
A must own, well worth watching.

In this interview Mr. Savini talks about how he thought directing NOTLD 90 was a bad experience, and that he only got to make about 20% of the movie he wanted to do

Keep doing something until you get it right. Even if it takes 30 remakes, it must be done.

Damn that got got off topic quickly.

I've only seen the remake once and it was a good couple of years ago. However I have to say it is a pretty good film, I wouldn't say it surpasses the original but it's good in it's own way.

It needed some work. I wouldn't call it the best, the only thing I liked on it was the way she put a bullet between Hoopers eyes. I like that.

It was alright. It suffered a lot because of Tom Savini's flat direction and a whole lotta studio interference. Not to mention a really bad, hamy, performance by Patricia Tallman (who's a better stuntwoman then an acctress, she was weak on Babylon 5 as well, and that's one of favorite sci fi shows of all time.) as the toughed up Barbara.

Still, this is the closest we got to a dead film in the 90s.

One thing it had, thats the same in the original. Your allmost want to shout at the TV , Go upstairs and check for more guns idiots, or knock down the stairs, stay up there were the zombies cant get you. A few others I wont mention. Simple little survival stuff that even a rookie ATZ member would know.
