I ran a search for "Dead Next Door" and came across this thread on the 4th page.
As for whether it's worth ordering, yes. Awesome low budget horror.
One of the best indie zombie flicks ever
That's bound to start a good arguement:lol:

I agree. :)
If Monsieur Bookwalter had a decent budget on that pic then i reckon we would all be talking about TDND and not just GAR movies

I've seen this movie a couple of times, watched it on my own and watched it with a variety of friends and after how many times I've seen it the same thing always escapes everyone's mouth; "It was good for it's budget". Which is very true. The movie I think was the first of it's kind back in the day and it started a wave of ultra low budget zombie movies that began taking the industry by storm. But in a way this movie was the most hurtful to the zombie genre because anyone with a video camera, some white facepaint and a few gallons of fake blood thought they could go out and make a zombie movie and become famous. And 1 out of every 10 of these movies that was made was considered watchable while the rest remained utter crap. The 90's was a really bad time for zombies and it's mostly because this movie gave a lot of filmmakers the idea that just because they didn't have any money, it didn't mean they couldn't make a movie. Now I'm all for low budget zombie/horror movies, I never pass judgement on a movie because it's shot on video or 16mm but a lot of these movies were honestly just made to make a quick buck. And the worst thing about this whole process is because there was no studio or anything like that usually backing these movies is people could just make whatever they wanted and try to sell their movie to the highest bidder. So in a way this movie helped the zombie genre but it almost killed it too. As much as some of us don't like it, had it not been for "Resident Evil" I don't know where our precious undead creatures would be today, certainly not in the box office. But then again, who knows I could be wrong but who remembers any zombie movies going to theaters before "Resident Evil" in the 1990's? Besides the NIGHT remake I mean. Think about it, probably a very short list.

Its a great zombie. Its actually #13 in my top 15 zombie movies:)
Great fx for its budget and a decent story. Plus it has Bruce Campbell dubbed over the characters voice!
Very underated zombie flick

Great film!
The thing that always struck me was for such a low buget, there sure are a lot of zombies. I mean, there are just gaggles of them.

Pretty cool low budget zombie gut muncher. I remember this getting a three of four page article in Fangoria in1988, then it was never released until the DVD a couple of years ago (boot had been floating around before that).
It's too bad Bookwalter never made anything else worth watching.

It's the kinda low budget nonsense that either you love or you hate, really. No one really thinks its a great zombie film. Just a fun one.

You know... I have to agree with you on this one, Pat. For me, this was a video nasty hardly worth the three quid I spent on it...
... yet for many here, it's one of the classics!
Just shows you how one girl's drudge is another boy's caviar... :)

Didn't think it was all that bad, it suffers mainly from having big plans and a miniscule budget. It has some good ideas and some nice touch's in the special effects department. Love the finger coming out of the neck stump.

You know, this film has been flying below my radar for a long time. I've heard it mentioned so many times but I've never seen it, nor do I know much about it. I can't help but be fascinated by what I have heard; the opinions seem to be so polarized - it is always described as either a work of genius or a shitbucket. I'm going to have to get me hands on a copy soon...

Just got this the other day. I didn't expect alot (no budget "B"asment movie) so I wasn't disapointed. If anything, I was very inspired. If you only like Hollywood & big budget films then don't bother with this one, go see Pirates Of The Carabean or something, but if you like to see someone follow through with their artistic vision on little or no budget then check it out. If you're a zombie movie collector then I think this is definantly shelf worthy.

Well it has alot of corollary people who I respect (Rami etc) Also unlike a number of recent 'indie' zombie films I do not think this was made to make money but pure zombie love. Soooo I ordered it for $7.59 from amazon, I cant wait.I will most likely be unhappy but surprises do surprise. Did he ever make part 2 as the bus promised?

I just got mine in the mail and I just watched it. You gotta love it.You gotta hate it. You can not look at it like Night of the Living Dead. To say it was low budget is not enough. So was Night, but Romero was in professional commercial advertising with a studio, a camera and acting friends and a great school Carnegie Mellin(?) behind him. Bookwater was 18!!! 18, Night is not just a good zombie movie it is a stunning movie. What makes the Dead next Door great is the obvious passion and love of the genre. It 'spurts' out of the picture. Some of it was even great. The finger coming out of the bottom of the throat Gore genius. There were even a few jumps and scares. The Romero borrowings were everywhere, Rhodes being ripped apart was done twice! Damn I liked this thing. I know there are guys on the 'new film' threads who are testing the response to their new indie zombie. There trailer sucks compared to this. No passion no original ideas I would be very surprised if the film guy even reads this thread. Bookwater definitely would have.Lastly the making of it commentary was a delight. The joy and dream that Bookwater brought to Akron Ohio is loud in the voices of the making of...I doubt I'll watch it again but it's great...and super 8! People used that to film uncle George in the pool!
