forgive me (and merge if necessary) if there already is a vampire movie thread, but i searched and didn't find one. we have the "not quite zombie" thread, but i thought the neck biters deserved their own.

anyway, just like with the werewolf thread, feel free to discuss any vampire movies, recommend favorites, hold the garlic and cross up to the sucky ones... you get the idea...

i'm wondering who's seen the film Habit, by Larry Fessenden. i missed recording it the other night, and it looked really good from what i saw. i hope i can find it somewhere.

I enjoyed Habitabit. I also loved Near Dark, The Lost Boys & Fright Night. My favorite vampire series would have to be Subspecies 1-4.

I'm also an arthouse horror geek as well so I have to prop Immortality (The Wisdom of Crocodiles), The Addiction and Nadja.

Near Dark and Frightnight rule the roost in my eyes. I love the old Hammer Dracula movies as well, also Nosferatu.

And you can't forget Vamp!!

See it before the remake taints its good name. It is an absolute classic. And i don't use the word classic very often.

Near Dark is probably one of the best damn vampire films in 20 years.

I agree with you guys. Near Dark is a great vampire film. Bill Paxton is a acting genious.

One of my favorites not mentioned yet is Martin. Whether he was a vampire or not I think it still counts as a vampire movie. Nosferatu is still awesome too.

I always liked the 97 Night Flier! :)
"Very gory, well-acted and well-written, albeit relatively low-budget, horror flick!"

I'd have to say my top 5 fav vampire flicks are:

Fright Night
The Lost Boys
Near Dark
From Dusk Till Dawn
Blade btw... I've taken the liberty of adding a poll to this thread.

Your welcome buz.
I've set it up so that you can chose more than one... It would be a good idea to limit your vote to your top three favs only, although I did happen to chose 5 myself.

YES!! Subspecies is DEFINITELY the best series ever. Such a shame it wasn't included in this poll.:-(

I don't believe I have heard anything about Martin or Habit. Near Dark was an awesome film though. But I got to go with the Subspecies series as one of the best. Radu was just to cool!

"I hear that the book 'Queen of the Damned' is way better than the movie. I've read 'Interview With A Vampire' and enjoyed it alot. I think I'm gonna read the rest of them. As much as I don't like reading, it might be worth it."

I've read the entire series as well as the spin-offs and they're actually interesting enough. I dislike Rice's romantic vampire concept on screen though.

Darkness

"Although I do feel that passion plays a key part in the role of vampire, she did cute it up a bit too much. Vampires do love, but it's a dark, torcherous type of love. Cold and cruel. Unyielding and demanding. Especially when this bond forms between two vampires. Like they showed in Van Helsing."

I believe the seduction should be use strictly toward one goal...draining the victim. NOT making love and then weeping with a lover about their cursed existence. BAH!

To me the vampires (although they are never referred to as such) in Near Dark summed up perfectly what they are; cold blooded killers that need blood to survive.

Finally getting around to seeing Habit. Just took a break midway through. It's filmed beautifully, and being a native NYer, I love seeing all the familiar spots. Probably finish it tomorrow.
Anyone seen any good flicks with fangs recently?

A few more I'd recommend are...
Immortality (aka Wisdom of Crocodiles)
Razor Blade Smile
Nadja
The Addiction

I know Nadja and The Additction may be hard to locate so you'll probably be better off seeking out the VHS versions.

eardrumbuz
01-28-2007, 09:21 PM
I like Nadja, too. Love the b&w and low budget effects. I remember Peter Fonda talking it up when it came out, and he was talking about how they used his daughter's (Bridget's I guess) Fisher-Price video camera for the vampire visual effects. Very cool. Now you can't get your hands on one of those things, unless you've got a small fortune. I have it on tape, but I'd love to find a dvd.
I'll keep an eye out for the others as well.

Nosferatu and Hammer's first Dracula. :)

I first saw Nosferatu at my granddads when I was 7 or 8 I think and I thought it was the most amazing black and white I'd seen at that time, lol.

Iconic imagery, the shadow of the Count going up the stairs, and the unforgettable shadow of his hand grabbing at the woman's heart. Classic.

Though John Carpenters Vampires was a pretty decent movie.

hmm Francis Ford Coppolas Dracula was amazing i thought and I love the Ann Rice books so Interview with the Vampire is also great. The Blade Trilogy ive alwaysed like cause im a f*ckin comic geek,sooo....Anybody but me think 3o days of night film was kinda lame i dig where they were goin with it and the effects the story justed seemed kinda thrown together and expectant. Nosferatu is great (1922) so is Nosferatu,The Vampyre (1979), The Lost Boys is always great. John Carpenters The Vampires is pretty solid.:x
Oh and Vampires vs. Zombies, worst piece of shit ever to fall into my hands.:poo:From Dusk till Dawn Trilogy ive always thought had this kind of light to it(in a good way) . And as Barbara the very (even if it has no gore and stars Eddie Murphy)
underated(i think its great personally) A Vampire in Brooklyn.

I went with The Lost Boys but my all time fave vampire film was the 1979 tv made movie called Salem's Lot by director Tobe Hooper.
