It's a sequel of sorts, taking it's title from a Hollywood film that had been presented as a documentary and was later revealed to be a hoax.

...and in a way, Poppa was not a bad guess!

nope. It's older than all of those. And, with The Ape Man and Poppa being sorta close...think not "Poppa" but ____, a common word used in titles of sequels.

Alright, I'm hovering around this thread too much today but this looks to be a variation of Fuselli's painting Nightmare which features an incubus squatting on a woman's chest. And the only film with this image that comes to mind is Russell's Gothic.

Am I on the right track?
