Alot of people take shots at this one. I think it was a very well made remake. Very good acting ( except for a few scene...the two young farmers comes to mind - but that what you get for using local talent ).......and very good FX.
Alot of scenes were cut out too ,some real good gore from what I seen (stills). Whats the dvd like? Does it have extras?
Not all remakes are bad - this one proves that point.

I haven't bought the dvd yet, but the reason some of the gore scenes were deleted from the original release is because it would've received an X rating. I'm hoping the dvd release has the deleted scenes in the movie and not in the special features section. I thoroughly enjoyed NOTLD'90 and it is IMO a near perfect zombie movie.

i wished that as well, but they are in the special features. the dvd is definitely worth buying, though, and can usually be found (brand new) for 5 - 10 bucks.

btw- this belongs in the "classic" zombie forum, not the "in theaters" one.

In addition, there's most likely a thread already on the subject, unless Kev chucked it during the last spring cleaning.

As far as remakes go this was a good effort. I enjoyed it a lot

The biggest disappointment on the dvd is lack of true extras. And, this flick cries out for a unrated version (or at least, a Directors cut). I n many ways i prefer this version to the original. This film was treated really harshly by the Yank censors for some unknown reason. Yet the Freddie's & Jason's had no hassles at all. I'd say there wasnt enough financial clout to "push" people.

It's a great zombie flick. DvD I have is a pretty good package. Had a nice little booklet, commentary by Tom Savini, Trailers, And a 30 min Doco that includes all the unused scenes.

All and all a nice little £5 DvD.

I consider this movie THE ONE that started the well made remake phenomenon. In fact, in MANY ways, I consider this one much better than the original.

I don’t prefer this to the original;, but its great in its own little ways. I like how its the same story, yet feels so different. Even the lack of gore adds to it's charm. I can't understand how people don't like this.

I haven't seen it. The only remake of the dead movies I've seen is Dawn '04. Are they worth seeing?

NOTLD'90 is a near perfect zombie movie... with a decent budget to boot. No exploding heads here, but the actors are all fairly well known and the zombies are among the best.

and the zombies are among the best.

I agree, the zombies in this film look excellent, this is my personnal choice for 'best looking zombies'. I love this film but I agree that the deleted sfx footage could have done with being re-inserted for the DVD.

This is one of my favorite zombie movies, I do prefer it to the original because this is one of the first zombie movies I ever saw and it really helped escalate me into the zombie freak I am today. I spoke to a few people involved in the movie, William Butler, producers Russel Streiner and John Russo, and even a short (very short) conversation with the film's director Tom Savini. And prior to speaking to Savini about the movie I had the feeling that Tom didn't like it very much. It was just the way they were talking about how the movie turned out and how his "vision" was comprimised in so many ways. Tom claims to have 40% of the movie he wanted to do. That being said I tried talking to Savini about it and he just kind of nodded his head and didn't seem to care much about it and quickly changed the subject. That being said I can honestly say Tom really doesn't care much for this movie, he even claims in the behind the scenes featurette that he would've been fighting for the deleted scenes, and I don't think there will be an unrated release in the near future, hell even the distant future seems bleak. Not only do I think Tom would not participate in the unrated version of the movie, I don't think Columbia would release it unrated just due to the fact I haven't seen any of their films, including the box office hit "Resident Evil" which also claims to be heavily cut, released.

There's quite alot of tales about NIght 90. Savini seems really affected by his experience. Not jut with the ratings people, but also Romero. I read ages ago they clashed a fair bit while making it.

It just seems Savini moved on and put it down to life experiences, which is understandable as the damn thing is 17 years old. Thankfully, he and Romero's friendship is still intact.

As his major directoral debut, i think he did a great job. He was very understanding of the project (as you'd expect!) and made some very good adjustments. He treated the subject with much more of a deft touch than Snyder did with Dawn. The best example is the cemetary scene at the start. We ALL know whats going to happen, but Tom throws in some surprises to keep us on our toes.

I found the scene with the daughter coming up from the basement very powerful and disturbing. NOt as shocking as the original, but more...sympathetic. Her jerky movements and those superb eye lenses, with her "cutesy" dress on really send shivers up my spine.

And, the scene with Barbara going for help and coming across the zombie with the doll is simply superb cinema. Equal parts scary, shocking and sympathetic.

The zombies in '90 are the best! Dawn '04 had some good un's too, but "90 scared the crap out of me when I was younger!

Night90 is an excellent zombie flick, it has absolutely everything one could possibly wish for in a horror movie. The zombies are superb, and it has a powerful vigour that flows beautifully throughout the movie. I think it's better than the original, but one has to bare in mind that it was made in 1990 rather the 1960's! Pitty George is unable to produce stuff like this anymore.
