HmmmI'm not to sure. Theirs not much point trying to do something smart with one of the silliest horror franchieses ever, Infact if you ask me it's when they stopped trying to be seriouse tha franchise got better; 6 - 8 and FvJ.

That's about where I'm at concerning this. I'm not looking forward to it but I'll see it. I'm always looking for something new. I just hope they remain true to the series and we're given a true Friday The 13th film.

Yeah, let's get back to Crystal Lake and have alot of T & A mixed with new and interesting ways to be brutally murdered!! I miss those movies as well!!
The series was just fine until they started messing about with it. I don't want to see Jason in space! I want to see camp councillors get massacred! Take it back to the lake and i'll be a happy man

I think they put him in space, just so it won't seem so repetative. I liked Jason X (in fact, I have it on DVD!) and thought it was a smart move. A prequel however just dosen't sound that good, stick with another one with Jason vs. Freddy. Hey, maybe they can put Michael Meyers in the mix!

02-18-2006, 09:34 AM
Bah! I don't want a prequel or a remake of the first film. I want Jason mother-effin' Voorhees' big hockey mask wearing undead ass slaughtering the hell out of some camp counselors. That's all I want. Honestly, I don't care about his origin, it's already been done (sorta) in Jason Goes to Hell. I've already seen Friday the 13th and it still holds up as one of the all time greats, I'm more interested in where Jason's going than I am where he's already been. And I swear to God if this is a comedy like Freddy vs Jason was, I'm leading the mob to New Line myself.

From the Fangoria article:
Fango has learned the future FRIDAY director is heading back to the studio in the coming days to pitch his take on a film that is geared to reignite and overhaul the franchise. While he’d like to give us the specifics of his vision, Liebesman has politely asked us to keep mum. “I’m afraid that things will change between the time you run the story and what the outcome of my meeting will be,” he laughs.“I don’t want to get the fans all excited and then see them pissed off that they got excited over nothing!”
That looks like a warning sign to me. "Reignite and overhaul"? WTF?

I think that sounds great. As much as I enjoyed Jason X...the franchise is grabage. Jumpstarting the franchise over with a new direction and fresh approach may be exactly what Jason needs.
Although I do enjoy the whole series, the only movies I watch are the first 6. I'd love to see the series go old school and return to the lake.

I'm not the writer, I'm just a fan. As a fan, the franchise has bored me. It's ridiculously played out like Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween. These franchises don't need new, shitty sequels they need heart transplants. If that means restarting the franchises all over again at square one and adding some new elements...I welcome that.

From Bloody Disgusting:
We were the first to announce the remake of Friday the 13th, the first to reveal the director and now we've got a complete casting breakdown for you! The breakdown (obviously) contains major spoilers from Damian Shannon and Mark Swift's screenplay, so make sure you want to know the fate of some characters before you read on. The remake being helmed by Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) shoots February 11 in Austin, Texas. The remake will focus on Jason Voorhees -- who will wear the infamous mask and kill -- and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake.
SPOILER ALERT
WHITNEY Caucasian. Mid 20s. Younger sister to Clay. Pretty and strong girl. She has the smarts and the will to survive in the most desperate of circumstances.
CLAY Caucasian. Late 20s. Older brother of Whitney. He's good-looking and has a quiet inner confidence. He's a dedicated and smart guy. All the girls definitely find him attractive.
CHUMBLER Caucasian, early to mid-20s. A little chubby, but he wears his size well, along with his cool chin beard. He has a tendency to make wear his attraction to attractive girls on his sleeve. He has no shame. Please submit your funniest character actors.
TRENT Caucasian, early to mid-20s. The Alpha-Male. He's got money, and he wants you to be his friend... especially if you can do something for him.
JENNA Caucasian, early to mid-20s. Trent's date for the weekend. She's great-looking, athletic, and the adventurous type. We wonder why she would be with Trent.
LAWRENCE Black, early to mid-20s. Good-looking and funny as hell. He's smart and is already trying to get his own company started. He puts on a white sounding "good ol' boy" voice when talking to his business associates.
NOLAN He wears a T-shirt that says F**K CHRISTMAS - The asterisks are snowflakes. But when an older woman walks by, he crosses his arms, covering it. Nolan poses as a rebel, but he's just as square as the rest of us.
CHELSEA Attractive college girl. Friends with BREE, but not as sexy. PARTIAL NUDITY REQUIRED
BREE Attractive friend to Chelsea, definitely the sexier of the two, and she dresses to make sure you can tell the difference. Hot as Hell!
WADE Caucasian, mid-20s. He's technologically inclined... at least enough to use a GPS Receiver. He knows the story about Camp Crystal Lake and he tells it to his crew around a campfire.
MIKE Caucasian, mid-20s. Whitney's boyfriend. He's a genuine and logical guy. He makes sure that his friends, and especially Whitney, are safe and taken care of. He's a really nice guy.
AMANDA Caucasian, mid-20s, voluptuous. Perfectly tanned and sexy. She's into Richie...at least for the weekend. PARTIAL NUDITY REQUIRED
RICHIE Caucasian, mid-20s. Funny and definitely attracted to Amanda. He doesn't waste time making a move on her.

Looks like this 'remake' will actually be a condensation of the first four films of the original series. Here's some of the lowdown from CHUD.com:
The new Friday the 13th is going to open with Jason as a legend in the Crystal Lake area. Five kids out in the woods looking for a bunch of weed they planted and stumble upon the deserted Camp Crystal Lake. Sitting around the fire that night, the dweeby one (there's always a dweeby one) tells the legend of Jason Voorhees. After that the Survivor Girl and her boyfriend wander off into the woods, where they find a shitty old cabin. Inside are some clues, like a bed with the name Jason carved in it. An old picture of a girl who looks just like Survivor Girl.
And Mama Voorhees' head.
Cue Jason. He murderizes the other four kids, and as he grabs Survivor Girl... slam into the opening credits.
This sounds like a terrific way to revive the series. We get right to the point, and it opens damn strong. From there the movie essentially becomes a rehash of the first four movies, but who is going to complain about that? One of the big changes is that the script attempts to explain some of Jason's supernatural aspects - the script goes out of its way to specify that he's a human being, not a zombie or a superman - including revealing that our favorite hockey masked killer has a series of hidden tunnels under the woods and the old camp, which is what allows him to pop up at the most inopportune moments.
As a die-hard fan of the series, I have to say that I like what I am hearing. Friday the 13th was never great cinema, and the sequels bastardized the concept worse than Platinum Dunes could ever hope to do.

Im just sick of everything either getting remade or getting a prequel. I know the point is to reintroduce an old movie to a new audience...
but does anyone not know of Jason and his 500 movies? really?
I can understand you being aggravated about it, but there is plenty of brand new horror coming out all the time. Even the odd good one on occasion!
Personally I think as long as they don't **** with Jason or his old Ma too much then I'll look forward to seeing it.

I pray that they don't explain away the mystique of Jason. He is by far my favourite slasher and I think he always has been. You know how culture seeps into you by proxy. well, like zombies, i think i knew about Jason (a hockey masked machete wielding killing machine) before i'd even seen the films (all of which i've made sure I now own) and I don't want some writer dicking about making up a backstory that's totally unnecessary. I especially HATE the idea of 'jason having underground tunnels' around crytal lake. He should be menacing enough that people don't care how he got infront of the semi-naked pot-smoking underage nymphomaniac and just enjoy the stabfest.
If this film goes down a similar route to Rob Zombie's Halloween and piles in unnecessary scenes at the expense of the core set-pieces then I'll be sharpening a machete of my own ¬¬

me and TBD were talking a little about the friday the 13th remake in another thread , and just read some more news on it so i thought id give it its own thread, this is from bloody disgusting
Exciting news for those of you who are fans of Platinum Dunes and New Line Cinema's Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, B-D was the first to report that director Marcus Nispel will also be reviving Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th remake from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift! The remake will focus on Jason Voorhees -- who will wear the infamous mask and kill -- and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake. This news is pretty huge as the film will in fact be filming during the strike. Watch for the masked one to return in 2008!
so in the other tread TBD said that jason will infact be the killer , which this article backs up, I kind of figgured they might do this being as jason is such a cultural icon now, what did suprise me however is the fact that he will have his trademark hockey mask, which he does not find until over half way through part 3, in part 2 he wears a gunny sack on his head, which leads me to the big question.
is this an actual remake of the original friday the 13th, or rather a reboot of the franchise ala batman and bond hoping to breathe some new life into what has unarguably become a very tired and predictable sieres?
I would have to think its the later, because not only are they rewriting the way the entire first movie plays out , which sets up why jason does what he does for all the following movies, they are also changing around, and estentialy wiping out parts 2 and 3 as well by giving him the mask in this.
will be interesting to see how this plays out and I will definatly be keeping my eye on this as I am a HUGE fan of the seires.
thoughts?

after finding more info on this, I am both not as worried as I was about this being a reboot, and at the same time worried in a totaly difrent way.
alot of this sounds like what we heard about the halloween remake, I hope and pray that they keep the tone and feel of the original movies , halloween absolutely sucked and to me it didnt work on any level.
I realize halloween was first, but friday the thirteenth is the opitimy of american horror movies, and jason voorhees is probaly one of the most recognizable characters from cinema.
if they make an updated version, with modern effects and film and lighting etc, and keep the tone and pacing and feel the same while taking out how silly the series has gotten in recent installments and just gets back to being about jason running around killing folks at camp crystal lake this will be excelent and exactly what the series needs, however if this tries to bite off more then it can chew or tries to totaly change the concept of what jason is or how we think about him, it still could work but then its treading on dangerously thin ice IMO, and i agree with the previous poster, trying to explain how jason gets around by using a set of underground tunnels sounds an awful lot like this will be getting the rob zombie lets make him a realistic killer treatment.
if you order a good ol' piece of apple pie, you expect apple pie maybe with a little whip cream and if things get really crazy some ice cream, you dont want to get a pie with a few apples and a melody of fresh summer berries with a mango glaze chutney on top - the point being, if you want a classic you want a classic sure you can enchance it a little bit or add a little something here or there, but if you get too carried away and move it too far from what it started as it all turns to a big pile of :poo:

His wife is actress Willa Ford (oh, my, God pics inside) and she was on the show talking about her husband's team and how they're doing in the playoffs. 'Friday the 13th' WILL Be R-rated (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/11968)
It's pretty hilarious how far this has spread and that people actually believe it's possible - on other websites, in our forums and under our news posts horror fans have been speculating that Friday the 13th (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/film/701) will be rated PG-13 when it arrives in theaters February 13, 2009. Today we spoke with Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller who addressed the PG-13 rumor and how ridiculous it is. Read on for the skinny and get ready for the return of Jason Voorhees at his best.
"None of our remakes have been PG-13," Producer Brad Fuller tells Bloody-Disgusting. "How do you remake a rated R horror movie and take the guts out literally and figuratively? What is F13 without sex, drugs and really, really long sharp machete? And why would we, horror fans ourselves, produce a movie devoid of the things that made the title so appealing in the first place. So let me say for the record, that the F13 that we start shooting this Thursday is a full bodied, rated R film."
He elaborates on just how R-rated this film will be. "It has insane kills that will be shown in all their glory- it has a group of college students who drink and even have sex. We are betting that if we don’t hold back that the audience will reward us for being bold in a time when some horror movies are playing the ratings game. So we embrace the R-rating Friday the 13th will have, and hope you (the B-D readers) will too."
Marcus Nispel directs the film, which stars Jared Padalecki, Derek Mears, Amanda Righetti, Danielle Panabaker, Aaron Yoo, Travis Van Winkle, Willa Ford, Nick Mennell and Jonathan Sadowski. Jason Voorhees returns to Camp Crystal Lake on February 13, 2009. -Bloody-Disgusting

ZombiesAteMyDog

the halloween remake reminded me of day of the dead 08.
as a remake of halloween it was pretty bad and didnt work at all with the backstory trying to make him just another sociopath.
however it was a great slasher flick, change his name form michael myers to steve smith and change his mask from the iconic white mask to something else and youve got a great little slsasher on your hands, leave it all as a halloween movie and it just doesnt really work to well.
this is exactly what I fear will happen with friday the 13th , if they take away jasons supernatural type stuff and explain him as just some nut case in a hockey mask going around in some under ground tunnels and killing people, im sure it will make for a genuinly entertaining slasher movie in general but a very poor friday the 13th movie.
jason is the face of american horror, he is to horror what mario is to nintendo or ronald mcdonald is to mcdonalds , yea he was a caracture of him self from the 6 - 7th movies on and it did become sort of a joke, and it could definatly stand to go back to how it was in friday the 13th part 3 and 4 , , I just eally hope they dont fiddle with him too much.

Okay, I was kinda interested in this remake, but I was more than likely gonna wait on DVD. That is, until I saw this new full trailer! Now I'm pretty damned hyped up about it!!

I'll give this remake a chance. I think that the TCM remake was well done.

I'm liking the way this film is turning out as well. It looks like they're keeping it close to the original Jason-theme, and I liked the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well. I'll most likely try to see this in theaters when it comes out.
I wonder if Mrs. Voorhees has an input to it cause the original was about her going psycho over her son's death.

I'm actually relieved that the killer is actually Jason and NOT his mother. That can only be surprising once, and besides that, I find part 1 pretty damned boring.

That's a kick-ass photo! It kinda reminds me of Jason in part 2 when he had the burlap sack over his head. I'm loving the way this movie is coming together, and I'm really wanting to see this really bad right now.

this is pretty much right around the corner, or at least last I heard it was suposed to be out on feb 13th, but im not seeing any trailers, no press stuff, the only thing was a few images released to IGN, and the trailer that was released ages ago,
is this a bad sign? I am actualy very looking forward to this one, at first I was very aprihensive ( thoughts of the halloween remake scaring me that they might screw the pooch on jason as well ), but im throwing caution to the wind and full on embracing this one.
Im really hoping they do a good job on this one, friday the 13th series is some of my favorite horror flicks and opitimizes american horror and slasher movies . if this reboot is good, it could not only revitalize the series, but the whole slasher genre.

I agree with you on this film revitalizing the series. It looks like it ties up most of the important parts of the first 3 movies – this makes it perfect for first time Friday watchers. Hopefully it will satisfy the hardcore fans as well as getting a new audience into the awesome horror and slasher genres.

It's supposedly a remake featuring Jason's origins. That's what I've finally gotten out of all the info.
A bit like Rob Zombies Halloween then?
