I thought it would be scary but the background music of the movie took that affect away.. it had nice exhadurated gore but the zombies looked awesome and the story line was funny & great =).

Funniest scene is when the zombie producer guy gets chopped in half and then gets shot in the balls.

Th main thing that completes the movie is the fact that they have and triple shotgun wielding hillbilly!

What I love about Undead, is the notion of it. It's not a great movie. It's a bad B movie and the directors acknowledge. Ain't It Cool trumpeted it into this big thing but, like another poster said, if you had no preconceptions about it you might consider it.

Being an Australian now living in the United States (spending my first 24 years in Brisbane) seeing the audicity of the Speirig Brothers to even attempt an Aussie Zombie flick is somewhat refreshing. I am not putting down the industry in Australia but being a writer and trying to get films off the ground in Australia is hard frigging work. If you want some serious cash you need serious contacts and a hand up the bum of someone at the film commission. I worked with a British writer, very successful in England. Worked for the BBC and has had several films produced, we could not get anything going for no plausible reason.

Anyway, that's the gripe of a bitter writer coming out.

Undead was true indie and pretty ambitious. The Brothers put a lot of heart and soul into it and it's a very clear message to aspiring filmmakers. I wish I had this lesson when I was living in Australia and was really pissed off: Just make a frigging movie! It's not hard. Any tweed can do it. (Do it well...that's another story, my friends)

Now living in America, selling two screenplays and hoping to embark on my own journey into indie-dom, the Spierig Brothers have given me hope. Low budget, high concept horror can look better than a lot of the tripe Hollywood puts out.

A bad movie, yes.

Well made, yes. (I'm talking production design, camera work, FX etc for their budget)

Not a classic of the genre. Made with love, though. And to me, those are the best kind of movies. And the ones that live on.

umm the sprigs, mungo, the dp, steven boyle, and falicity mason. lol i got to work with steven boyle the makeup guy a couple of years ago on a short film called neather world. he was a really cool guy and knew his shit. lol i got to interview him and the spirigs when i was in uni about a year before undead came out. that was cool i got to hold the 3 shotgun gun from the film. they were busy cutting the film on final cut pro. i also caught up with them about a year back at brisbane international film festival. i chatted to them for about an hour but i think i had had to much to drink and made an ass of myself. ha ha. i was trying to convince them to use Bruce Campbell in there next film as i had heard a rumour that they were. they wouldnt tell me weather they were or not

also id just like to say that if you guys ever get the chance to see these films do it. the 3 undead short films they made when they were yong are freaken awsome. very funny. i have no idea how to get a copy of these films. i have seen them twice at screening down here at the lead up of the undead theatrical run in 2003. i asked them if they would put the films on a dvd but they thought lions gate wouldnt want to spend money on a double disc edition of undead to fit them in. i hope the spirigs dow float them on the net or somthing as they are hella cool short films.

undead was overrated....yes an entertaining film which is pretty much all that matters...but i didnt go away with the need to watch it again...the ending was great though with her sitting on the porch with her shotty watching the corral of zombies in the front yard...i didnt understand the idea behind the aliens. were they trying to help the people by removing the zombies or were they the ones that put them there??? how did that work??

i guess i should watch it again...maybe that will help

a lot of people seem to misinterpret the alien actions in Undead. it seems to me that they followed the meteorites to Earth and saved the humans from the zombies. I love this movie. Don't think it's been overrated at all. my only complaint, and it's a real spoiler...so if you haven't seen it I'll just type it like this: my one complaint is how easily Marion went down at the end. something should've led up to it or there should've been more of a struggle or something...just something

EDB is correct. The aliens were actually helping the whole time by CURING the zombie plague that the meteorites caused.

I liked the zombies in Undead, but the film always left me wondering what was going on... Not sure if it's been posted, but I found a very helpful FAQ on imdb.com about Undead.

http://amazon.imdb.com/title/tt0339840/board/nest/29282959

If you haven't seen it yet, you might not want to read it. It seems to fill in the blanks well enough... I will watch Undead again with this info in mind.

EDIT: must be registered to read from the look of it.

I rented the Australian zombie flick undead after seeing it a year ago. I waited for ever to see in the states and when I did it was pretty senseless. If I remember right the aliens were kinda good. I mean it was quite enjoyable but fairly senseless. Now I rent it and the aliens are bad and the end has changed. Is this true? Or am I just forgetting what it was like when it first came out. I DO know reading here a ways back they changed the preveiews to make it more like night of the living dead. But did they change the whole end and reshoot scenes?

I haven't seen it in a long time but..

SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!! (tag isn't working)

<spoiler> I remember it as the good aliens are following the comet that causes zombies. They fix the zombies by raining on them. People think the aliens are bad towards the end, and the guy in the plane escapes the containment zone. The good aliens fix everyone in the containment zone then leave. The plane guy that wasn't cured infects everyone. The chick rounds up the zombies and puts them in a concentration camp. She's waiting for the aliens to return. </spoiler>

I remember it being screened here, at the Hawaii International Film Fest.

The DVD I saw clearly was based on the idea the aliens were bad. There was a voiceover that staed that the woman was taking the place of Mungo? as defender so when the zombies return she will be ready for them! So whats up? Hey I'm a colonel now! Wow I get to be in the army and I cant even get shot!

i think this movie was a good attempt for an australian zombie film but it does get a little weird at the end. it has some pretty awesome moments though and the quintessential australians in it are hilarious.

You may want to re-watch because you're a bit off. The movie leads you to believe through Marion's account that the aliens are evil and have somehow brought the zombie plague but it's simply Marion's perception.

Rene wasn't taking Mungo's place at all as alien/zombie killer. She was protecting the zombies, her fellow townsfolk, until the aliens could come back and cure them.

Loved it!! I ordered it on Amazon (used) for about $12. One of the best new additions to the genre I've seen in a while. Nice nasty gore, lots of tongue in cheek humor and great characters that will keep you in stitches. A must for any Zombie collection.

Has anyone seen this?

I heard from one review it was complete crap, the most senseless and mind-numbing zombie movie ever, while another on IMDB raves and puts it on the same level as the Evil Dead trilogy.

I don't quite agree with either view. I saw it not long after it first hit theatres and thought it was okay. It's got some annoying characters, stunts that defy belief, and a schizophrenic storyline, but I didn't think it was a terrible film. I've certainly seen a hell of a lot worse in recent years.

Yeah if you are able to not take zombie movies very seriously then then its a great movie. I watched it with my brother and we both had a great time.

You should watch more idiotic movies, if this is the "most idiotic" movie you've seen. Have you seen seen any of Peter Jackson's early films?(didnt mean for that to read like a burn on PJ)

Well, i have seen Zombie Night. That was pretty terrible.

Undead is defintly better than that. I just didn't like the matrix like fisherman character, he was just plain annoying. Didn't like the alien stuff either. Like I said there were cool things and idiotic things. I like the male cop, that was a good character.

Undead had its charm. I am surprised people other than sexy, well-hung Aussies understood a word! hahaha - the accents were pretty broad.

Funny thing is that the people who made this have done nothing since. The brothers were making a vampire film last i heard, but that was about 4 years ago. Since then, we've seen the team behind SAW and WOLF CREEK sort of come up and step past them.
