I checked all the threads in this section, and I'm really surprised that no one mentioned Reign of the Dead, or Apocalypse End! These two books, with a third yet to be released, ROCK! Extremely well written, fast paced, and hard to put down. Featuring LD's that are slow moving classic shambling types. Likeable characters, you really feel for them and it helps you to get into the story. Has anyone else read these?
I started Reign of the Dead months ago, but just can't seem to get into it. I imagine i will finish it eventually, but i have read so many better books since i started it.

I've read them both and enjoyed them very much. I've heard that the third one is actually a prequel that will explain how the virus began. That's kind of bummer to me since I want to know exactly what was going on with Jim at the end of Apocolypse End.

Yep,
Two of the best zombie books I've read. There was a thread about these books last year I thought, well whatever. Both are very fast reads and lots of fun. Yeah, I read that the third is a prequel also.

Well you know, if all else fails, you could try ebay! LOL! Pain, since you say you couldn't get into it, and you've read better books since starting it, could you recommend some? Since I'm sure a few of us are waiting in anticipation for book #3, we could at least fill in the time with other works of fiction!

I could, but i won't! Not all of them are zombie books, or even horror books.
We'll keep this to Reign of the Dead. I'll post some of my favourites in the chat lounge. I'm sure there is a book thread lurking around down there somewhere.

i second your opinion on these books barbras bro...they are both very well written, and hard to put down. I enjoyed the "classic" zombies instead of the fast or smart ones. great reads! i didnt know the third is going to be a prequel! I want to knew what happened after apocalypse end!

The way I read it, at the end of the Apocolypse End,
SPOILER!!!!!
Jim seemed not to be turning the way everyone else did. Either that or his transformation was just going to be a little slower. I don't know. I half expected him not to turn at all.

Who knows? Maybe if book 3 is as successful as the first two, he'll follow up with a sequel to #2? Wouldn't that be the sheet?!! I have first editions autographed by both Len Barnhart and Leonard Lies (aka machete zombie)!

I loved the first one a lot, one of my favorite zombie books but the second one sucked compared to the first one. When I heard that there was a third book I figured it would only get worse but the fact that its a prequel is pretty cool and I have high hopes for it.

Tue, a confusing and open to interpretation ending. Had the presence of mind to dig a grave, so I don't think he turned. But, that whole weird ending is the reason for the prequel. (I am supposing)

No, it won't. The prequel will involve all new characters, and is supposed to take place in the NYC area. Don't know too much else about it. It was supposed to be released already, but now it won't be out until next year. (and I was so looking forward to it too!)

thats what i got from it...i thought somehow his body managed to fight off the virus...we may never know..
Agh, I had no idea it was a prequel! That's awesome, the outbreak, is my favorite part of the zombie stories.

I just hope that it has more about different groups of people struggling to get it together, and things like that. I don't care about all the military/political references. I just like to read about average people using whatever tools they have to battle the undead! And stick with women fighting zombies too, because I hate it when they constantly try to make females incapable of handling a situation. Just my 2 cents!

len barnharts´books are the best. I dont get zombie books here in argentina, so i have a library that specially bring them to me, but it takes too long, and its expensive (3 dollars = 1 peso), so i only bought len barnharts books, brian keene (both of them) and xombies.
And i read over the net Monster planet, Island, etc.
My conclusion is that Reign of the dead series are the best of all the zombie books i`ve read, i really enjoyed them, but i dont want a prequel novel, i want a sequel...anyway...

Meh. I read the first one and thought it was just ok. Nothing spectacular. They should have done alot more story with the boys republic thing, that could have been very interesting. The writer seemed to rush through everything.
Ive been meaning to pick up the 2nd though. Im interested in what Jims going to do.

if you are wanting a copy of the book, try his website....I'm to lazy to look up the website now, but I think it's something like Reignofthedead.com...maybe.
The first one was the best, it didn't tread on any new ground but it was good. The second book was ok. I enjoyed it but thought that the white surpremecy part of the book was just too cliche for a zombie story. Also, if you are interested, he also has a comic book series that he's working on. I think it deals with different survivors and all. It's taken a while to get his comic out to the public though, he may not be finnished with it yet.

WHile well written the second half of teh second book did nothing for me, and without giving spoilers, I hated the ending. BUt I loved the first book, and much of the second.

Yeah, I read these and enjoyed them. Not particularly original, standard Romero-esq zombie fare, but a good fun read. Can't wait for the thrid one.

I hope it's fairly decent. The writing is a bit amateurish by regular standards. But I wanted to read a book that was more in tune with Romero's zombies. I forced myself to read through "The Rising"....zombies that talk? Come on....but I finished it finally and...eh, it was ok.
Am reading Zombie Survival Guide now, great read!
