This looks like a pretty cool zombie flick. It appears to be quite comedic and gory. It looks pretty interesting though. I'm looking forward to it.

Fun movie.
I won't give spoilers, no worries.
Oh, and...Willow was much more delicious that Buffy.
PS:I'm not a Buffy fan, but a certain 'band camp' comment got me sprung on 'Willow'.

this trailer/movie looked very promising til they started playing rap and showed zombies dancing all gaylike.Man,i hope george romero isn't putting TECHNO or RAP in his movie.sorry guys I just can't take it seriously.Im not a fan of RAP and Techo and it throughly ruins it for me.House of the dead was a prime example not to put rave music in a horror movie, this movie totally sucked...zombies running around while rave music plays,i felt like getting up and taking some extasy and start dancing all weird.Besides everything else about it(plot,actors,ect...)It's crap like this that's ruining american zombie movies.Alot of you prolly won't agree, but that's my 2cents on this ever growing annoying issue with today trends spilling into EVERYTHING(even zombie movies)...UNDEAD(aussie zombie movie)was the best thing I've seen in years(awesome job!! AWESOME MOVIE!!)Keep the rap stars OUT OF HORROR(I mean aint they making enuff money)I will not go see Resident evil 2 also because of this!CRAP! sorry ruins the mood. The only electronic music that was cool in a zombie movie was "GOBLIN" from the lucio fulci movie "ZOMBIE".

I think you've missed the whole point of the film. It's obviously a zom-com. There's no chance David Carradine would sign on for a SERIOUS zombie movie. The scene with the techno and the dancing zombies is obviously a throw back to "Thriller" by Micheal Jackson.
For someone who hasnt even SEEN the movie yet, you're entirely too quick to judge.
And I'm sorry but when you attack rappers and then use bad grammar and spelling like "2 cents" and "aint making enuff money", you dont really have a place to complain because without the beats thats all alot of rappers are: illiterate losers.
When you see the movie and it sucks, THEN you can complain. The RE2 trailer made me cry, but the finished product was much better than I had anticipated. Admittedly though, it's still not an excellent movie.

I'll still see the movie cuz as i stated,"THE MOVIE LOOKED PROMISING",But I was like WTF when I seen a bunch of Mtv rap video dancers (as you stated"THRILLER"-like and besides Michael Jackson likes to touch children and thinks he's peter pan.)other than this segment in the trailer,it looks like a gory, fun satisfying movie(sorry if I don't find Mtv dancers appealing or laughable,or "a movie enjoying experience",hopefully these segments "AREN'T" throughout the movie ("we're gonna kill ya...gonna kill ya..gonna kill ya" Pffft...please,I realize it's a comedy, but this was gay, then again it's my opinion..."to each his own"....right?)and if i'm harsh..."Oh well",i tend to roll my eyes at this sort of thing and will always make fun of it.zombie movies coming out just like RE2 I dont wanna see it cuz I can guarantee it'll have alot of Techno/matrix-likeness in it and this just turns me "OFF".(sorry if I'm too quick to judge,it's just I know what "my"(not Mtv's)taste is in a good zombie movie*Rolls eyes*(excuse me cuz I don't like Eminem,Prodigy,or Micheal Jackson),House of the dead was another prime example of a big useless zombie/techno turd. All in all,I just wish they'd keep Mtv,Techno,& Rap outta zombie movies(they're starting to do it TOO MUCH.)

I thought the soundtrack of House of the Dead made the movie worse than it already was. I agree with that and dislike both genres of music they used. I still want to see Dead & Breakfast and plan to give it a chance. I saw the trailer months ago and thought it looked like a fun flick.

I'll do my best this Friday to get to Boston and see a screening of it.
That little bit with the dacing zombies does not bother me. I also realized it was most likely based off of Thriller. Zombies, laughs, gore, original cast? Sounds good enough to me.

**UPDATE**
I emailed the filmmakers about a possible uk release date. Here is what i got back....
Dear Phill,
Thanks for your email and for your comments about "Dead and Breakfast".
The film has really found an independent audience around the world as
it has played the film festival circuit over a year now. I'm pleased to
tell you that "Dead and Breakfast" will get a limited theatrical
release this spring in the US, and a DVD release to follow later in 2005.
Keep checking our website for updates on where the film is playing. And once
the film is out on DVD, tell your friends to check it out! As of right
now, there is no "Dead and Breakfast" soundtrack release schedule,
unfortunately.
Thanks again for your support!

This is awsome...If you live in the US. Unfortunately I dont so i may never get to see this film. I still have it on dvd to watch at my leisure though
As for the soundtrack, I also emailed Zachariah Selwyn the guy who plays the Narrator/singer/zombie guy in the film and he told me that he hasnt heard of plans for an official soundtrack release but he is going to hook me up with a cd with the songs on
:)

A quick review from the Village Voice:
Even more impishly self-conscious, Matthew Leutwyler's Dead & Breakfast is as goose egg as its punning title, doodling around on the George Romero template with even less panache and goofy wit than, say, 1972's Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things. Lambasting hick brainlessness more doggedly than zombie tropes, the film even steals from the Farrellys, with mockabilly Zach Selwyn warbling Greek chorus ditties every few minutes while Jeremy Sisto, Erik Palladino, and various other C-list slummers fend off cracker locals, an ancient curse, and the wisecracking living dead. The blood is raspberry syrup, the gags gag, and the film virtually falls over itself informing us how lame it is.

I didn't find it funny and i didn't like the zombie concept. The dancing...What the hell. THIS IS WHY I DON'T WRITE REVIEWS.

Did I miss something? I was really looking forward to this movie, but I was utterly disappointed - and I have pretty low standards when it comes to zombie flicks. Were these revenants even zombies at all? Admittedly I was sleepy when I put the disc in (in fact, I fell asleep halfway through and had to pick up in the morning), but I don't recall any flesh eating, although the zombie-like creatures certainly were murderous. I did not detect any "comedy" and had the film not been billed as such, I would have thought it was just the same kind of "hey dude" young people cracking wise that one sees in such films as "Cabin Fever." (Whoever thought of the cunning play on "Lovelock" is certainly the Oscar Wilde of our age). And what's with seemingly ordinary people turning into super-badasses whenever zombies appear? Is this how it will be in the post House of the Dead world? I will give this another try next weekend with a few beers and a zombie-loving friend (triple bill with Choking Hazard and Nightmare City), but for now, I am just bitter. :poo:
This was my first use of an icon. I am very pleased that the "poo" has little things flying around it.

Did anyone else sense any Cabin Fever flashbacks in this movie? What I mean is that Dead and Breakfast had its points of vast halarity and fun, but there were times when it just got predictable and sucked. It was the first Zombie movie that really didn't have Zombies (they were demons), err wait 28 Days Later did the same thing. But it seems that the comedy side of it was more along the lines of substance abuse and redneck jokes, there was nothing really well written in this movie, it had a weak story line, cheesy ass "Zombies", too many unintelligent puns, and then to top it off, the guy from KUNG FU! It was a good movie for the die hard horror guy who has every copy of Dead Alive and Return of the Living Dead 3 in the world. But for those who like sitting down and seeing real people in real zombie situations, it was horrible. NOT THE AMERICAN ANSWER TO SHAUN, IT WAS THE COLLEGE BURNOUT ANSWER TO A GOOD GENRE OF MOIVES. :poo:

 Sorry, this may be your opinion but I think it's ridiculous. Is this supposed to mean that stupid movies and poor stories are great for die-hard horror guys? Die-hard horror guys who collect Dead Alive and ROTLD3 can't enjoy "real" people in "real" zombie situations?

I just watched it for the 3rd time and its still a very good indie movie.
I think that (as some of the comments say) the writing wasnt good at some parts is becasue of Indie films having a lack of studios that trim and clean stuff up. But whatever I dont need to defend it it pleased me and the majority on this foruum so thats fine by me.

Hey now -
For the record, I envy all posters who enjoyed this flick. I am going to give this one a second chance, as I previously noted. There are movies that grow on you, and movies that you wish you'd never seen. As zombie fans, we need to be charitable to any effort to push the undead envelope, but we also must be willing to bite the rotting hand that feeds us and say "wtf". As we all know, many of these films suck, but each has its followers. There's no need for antagonism, but when you get down to it, all each of us wants is to be entertained by these zombie-folk (however we define them) and, after closing our windows at night, maybe bolting them shut, and drifting off to sleep, wondering if that's just the wind blowing leaves against our windowpane, or is it the longing, moaning scrapings of our worst fears, fears potent enough to raise the dead.

i am probably gonna buy it because i have to own every zombie movie ever made but i am not expecting much especially since the cast is from previous lame movies such as wrong turn and jeepers creepers. Just from what I seen and heard already it just looks like a totally lame and unoriginal horror flic. But hey, I guess i cant totally bash it until i actually see it.

I was hugely disappointed in this movie. Small studio trying to get press or not, whoever billed this as the "Answer" to Shaun of the Dead got my hopes too far up. Shaun was brilliant comdey while this isn't. It's like comparing Monty Python to South Park. The adolescent humor gets old, fast. :puke:

Wrong Turn kicked ass!!! Jeepers Creepers 1 was a decent flick as well, but who doesn't love movies about inbreeding?!! Plus, Eliza Dushku is HOT!!!

inbreeding, chemical waste, radiation, you have to have an explaination for all these creatures in the movies! LOL!

I loved Dead and Breakfast, and would highly recommend it to most people. I know that not everyone has the same tastes though. I agree with Blind Dead on those movies though, but I know we differ on other horror movies. Also not only is The Dush hot in Wrong Turn, but she's wearing a white tank top.
While watching DNB a second time with a group(their first), the undead start dancing and one person says "What are they going to do next breakdance and rap?". Needless to say, there was much laughter when the rap started.

I thought this movie was a lot of fun. They were pretty insistent in the film that "They're not zombies!" So if you keep that in mind and aren't trying to hold this movie up to any previous zombie movie standards, it's a blast. I especially liked the singing cowboy and his songs, they were the funniest parts of the movie.

I thought that this movie was quite funny. I'm not one for comedy zombie movies (such as shaun of the dead). This movie had me laughing a lot though. :)
It was def worth the like ten bucks I think we paid for it lol. The songs were quite interesting, which is good bc I was forced to listen to them several times over and over lol.

Good movie, I would def recommend watching it...

I dunno, that whole rapping thriller dancing zombie part just didn't sit well with me. Definetly not a 'US answer to Shaun of the Dead' but still an okay flick. Yeah, worth $10 for sure.

I was really surprised, the movie was very funny, and i honestly cant remember a time i've laughed so hard during a horror film, other than the first time i saw Shaun in the theater. I gotta get this one on dvd. And to be honest, there never will be a "US Awnser to Shaun" it just wont happen.

Thanks again Pain! I think I'm probably gonna go ahead and buy this since the majority of people on the thread seem to give it a thumbs up. Blind Dead seems to know what he's talking about most of the time, and he seemed to really like this one. Great review, by the way! I especially like the way you don't drag it on and on. Alot of reviewers and critics seem to want to do page after page which causes me to lose interest very quickly. I'll probably pick it up on Thursday when I go back to work!

I think the people that don't like this movie just got something that they weren't expecting. It's a fun movie. If you went in expecting a serious zombie-slaying survivalist movie like Dawn, then I can see how you were disappointed. If you had an open mind and didn't mind something different for a change then it should have been quite enjoyable.

man i was waiting for this film for like 2 years so i think i blew it out of proportions before watching it. on the cover it said the american answer to shaun of the dead and i you know when ever a movie says its as good as a 5 star film you know its not gonna be. i guess i must like the british humour more then the yank stuff as i thought this film was a bit of a drag. i wanted to kill that guy with the guitar but i guess that was the point. excellent cover art. my copy has the cool moving cover which i think is the american version. you should see the cover of the australian version it fully sux it looks like they got some high school kid to spend 2 minutes on it in photoshop. same with the australian cover of evil aliens it sux big time to. dont get me wrong i liked dead and breakfest although it was no shaun of the dead it was as good as evil aliens. which i thought was pretty cool. its like comparing the homour of the young ones and monty python to friends and joey.

I’m with you there, Pain. “The U.S. answer to Shaun of the Dead”? Give me a break. No wonder other countries hate us :) This film isn’t even a tenth of Shaun’s wit and humor. The only thing I really admired is that (spoiler ahead) the guy I figured as the hero, Johnny, died relatively soon. Oh, and I thought the pipe shotguns were awesome. The music? Eh. I’ve heard better on Bob and Tom. Some funny moments, sure, but in my book, it definitely doesn’t hold a candle to Shaun of the Dead.

I really dug the, "we're coming to kill ya, we're coming to kill ya" dance routine.
That was funny.
And yes, the pipe shotguns were bad ass.
Although...just by the coolness of em...it encourages you to "try this at home"...though, I'd imagine, disaster would occur if you did.
