RESIDENT EVIL NEWS (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/index.php?Show=4469&Template=newsfull)

It was reported way back in early June (story here) that Sony Screen Gems is working on not one, but two new Resident Evil films, which would kick off in Japan- well things change! Inside you can read an unconfirmed scoop we received regarding the video game adaptations and how Sony is now planning a whole new trilogy based on them!! Remember, this is just rumor until confirmed...

received the following scoop from The Rotten Cadaver:
"Hey guys, I've got a really exciting scoop regarding Screen Gem's three upcoming Resident Evil sequels. That's right -- I said THREE...

An assistant script reader over at Sony contacted me this morning regarding War of the World's scripter Josh Friedman's contribution to the franchise. Apparently, he just wrapped up writing a new trilogy to the series that will lead the films into new territory (ala what Capcom did with RE4).

Although my insider was only able to read the opening seventy-six pages of the first script, he tells me that there seems to be a lot in common with these sequels direction as to that of the newest game title. Unlike what was reported a little over a month ago (a Japanesse setting), the first of the trilogy takes place on an island of the coast of Europe where strange things start brewing after a luxury cruise ship vanishes near the land mass. Series regular Clair Redfield comes into the picture when she recieves an unsigned note of which appears to have been written by her missing brother Chris. News of the doomed ship adds fuel to her search, leading her to the above mentioned location. He also notes that only a few "breathing corpses" were mentioned in the screenplay, and that the usual RE beasts (such as lickers, ceribus', hunters, and tyrants? and the Alice character were nowhere to be found.
Remember that this is just a rumor until confirmed. Hopefuly we'll have further confirmation and more news in the coming week, so watch this spot.

Resident Evil 3 was originally announced to be called Afterlife with principle photography planned for November or December.

Classic. I'm a huge Resident Evil fan of both the games and the two movies. Well, RE2 movie was so-so but still... reads like good news to me.

Personally, I'll take RE either way it goes. I loved both movies, (Apocolypse more), but this new direction sounds wonderful as well.

I'm wondering how part three plays out with 2, I wonder if in this one are they still going to put the Umbrella logo everywhere. I liked that twist and I feel they should keep it.

Well, the Umbrella Corporation still seems to be in control of the media, and they have managed somehow to calm the public's fears surrounding the outbreak.... They have also taken the heat off of themselves, and place it upon other sources... Besides, they have possession the t-virus, and they'll figure out some way to release it once again.

The sequels should be filled with some kickass effects and stuff, especially since Alice has those new powers. its gonna rock!

That goes without saying... RE had an operating budget of $33M, and RE2 was at $45M... Could you imagine an RE3 with a budget that GAR had to work with? :loon:

Resident Evil 1 was cool enough, but hopefully the third RE will be better than RE2 was; The fight scene at the end with Nemesis versus Alice was kinda lame and poorly shot. Zoom out so I can see what the hell is happening! They should've kept the original director. Still, it did have zombies in it.

I'll see the third RE and hope for better things than part 2.

I'm all for new Resident Evil movies as long as they make them the way they were supposed to. As in horror. Neither of the movies were horror films, the first being a scifi-action film, and the second being straight up action. They were fun to watch, but absolutely rediculous (especially RE:A). Give the movies to a decent director.

Darth Erroneous

Although I enjoyed the first two RE movies, I have to agree with Soldat. I know many will disagree, but I believe Danny Boyle would do a great job at the helm of a RE movie. RE (With the exception of 4) has never really concentrated very much on action. It's common knowledge that there is never enough ammo in the game to kill everyting. You have to pick and choose your battles which makes for a more suspenseful game. If that could be transferred into a movie, that would be a very suspenseful horror movie.

This news seems strange to me, Blades... RE2 seemed to very much line up any sequel to involve the 4 characters in the car... Alice, Jill Valentine, Carlos and the other vaguely-amusing-yet-mostly-annoying bloke.

Mind you, let's face it.. they could run this franchise forever, both with the games and the movies. And I hope they do... :)

If they run it forever the series will get boring and they will run out of plots and storys that are good. I like the series but no series should run forever for the chance it will get bad later in the sea of sequels, much like what happened with movies like Friday the 13th the new beginning, Jason Takes Manhatten, Jason goes to hell and Jason X. The Friday series just goes to show you the best of franchizes eventually begin to run out of story and do other stuff that is crapped. hopefully RE doesn't go the same path as Friday the 13th.

Ah... You speak wisely, Blades. All we need do is look at what happened to the Star Trek franchise

Mind you, with the wealth of characters within the resi universe, we have a lot of potential to go... well, anywhere really. Let's hope the quality control stays, regardless of budget..

You're speaking of Mike Epps! Funny real-life story involving him. He came to town a while back to do a comedy show at the comedy club behind the mall. He came to visit the mall and when it came time for him to leave he had forgotten where he parked. A security guard picked him up and drove him around trying to locate his car. The security guard, a Pagan, wore a couple rings on his fingers that Epps started to ask questions about. The guard, who didn't want to get into a religious converation, just told Epps that he didn't want to talk about it. When the guard finally found Epps' car, Epps got out and said something like, "Thanks a lot you f*ckin racist skinhead!" He then slammed the door and got into his car. True Story.

Not trying to bring up Mike Epps again, but I notice that part 1 didn't need a comic relief like he played in part 2. Now, I liked part 2 alot better than part 1, but I really hope they can leave out that type of character in the next one. I know, I know...He was in the car at the end of Apocolypse, but that doesn't mean they can't kill off that character in the opening of part 3!!

If they make another one, especially based off RE4, they should change the style of action. In RE:A, most of the action was rediculous twin fisted, slow motion back flipping garbage. It looked like it was desperately trying to be The Matrix or something. RE4 has lots of action, but its realistic pursuit type action. If Leon ever does a backflip or shoot with 2 guns while running in a RE movie, I'll vomit.

I would like to see more of the Umbrella Corps behind the scenes leadership and govt employees who do their bidding (along with zombies taking over cities!) Maybe the sequels will be about Alice using her new powers to take down the Umbrella Corp.

When RE2 ends, it also leads you to believe that the Umbrella Corp can track Alice or secretly control her. Maybe its like in Robocop where he had that prime directive installed where he couldn't act against the OCP leadership. (sorry about the Robocop comparrison!)

it says that the next movie will take place in the nevada desert (*picturing zombies rolling around in the sand*). I am not exactly sure what they are doing there. I thought it would have taken place in europe since thats where umbrella's HQ is and that they would be trying to stop it. Then the next movie after that is suppose to take place in japan. I am not sure why they would run off to japan but there really doesn't need to be a reason for that because zombies running around through tokyo is going to be awesome.

I would seriously like to see them attempt to make a new storyline that somehow manages to tie in well with the game story lines, rather than just taking various elements from the games and making films based very loosely on them. I mean, RE: App. Really didnt do it for me, its was alright, but it was so loosely based, and it trashed the storyline thats been around for a while, but eh, just one man's opinions. My only real problem is that if Alice is so important, why havent they bothered mentioning her in the games? Or why havent they at least hinted at her exsistance? Are they going to make new games based on the new films, or what?

The first film was so far fetched though, so loose, so totally un-resident evil. But the second one wasnt any better, the only thing that really tied it to the series was the fact it stole some scenes from Code Veronica, Nemesis, and such. Decent zombie movies if they were to stand by themselves, but the thing is, they don't, they try to be RE movies, and it doesnt really work out too well, but we can always hope it will get better.

I liked the "Licker" monster from the movies, but I hope RE3 offers some great, long lasting zombie scenes; tons of zombies attacking, survivors (Alice) blasting the crap out of them. Just one scene like that, with medium to far camera shots, and lots of gore, and I'd be happy, considering I almost walked out of the theater for RE2. (I thought RE1 was good enough (still needs more zombies scenes.)

What's with all the hating of the RE movies? Damn. At least they tried. They ushered in the zombie resurgence. Without RE1 no 28 Days Later...no DOTD04 probably no LOTD either.

Think about it though, without RE1 there'd probably also be no House of the Dead.

Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Why oh why do they have to change the story so much all they have to do is write a script about the orginal and how its supposed to be told. Why do videogame movies always have to be screwed with.

I heard something about Capcom giving them permission to use the liscense but not the stories or most of the characters. That could account for the original discrepancies between the films and the games. After that, well, you just have to follow the storyline you're stuck with.

Frankly, I would have rather seen a more faithful film adaptation, but at least the RE universe is on film in some fashion. For the most part the zombies don't run. They do somewhat capture the feel of certain parts of the games. Granted, there is less tension in the films, I like that they are going to serious action in zombie films, rather than strictly suspense or camp.

Which is not to say that I feel these films are perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm a huge RE fan. I love the films BECAUSE they are RE and then because they are zombie movies. Hell, I own that sh***y gameboy game RE Gaiden, and Dead Aim, so that tells you something.

Ultimately, we need to be thankful that the zombie movie has come into the spotlight a little bit. Sure, a lot of stuff is going to be crap, but that's true of Hollyweird in general. What this does is open doors for other, better film makers to get more money from the studios and a place at the table for their zombie films. I for one am looking forward to this next installment.

I have to agree that the zombies looked damn good in RE1, definitely some of the better ones that I've seen. Too bad the story was too weak to back them up :puke:

I would love to see a direct from game to big screen version of RE4, that game was great from start to finish.

News...

About a year-and-a-half ago, it was reported that Constantin Film and Impact Pictures had already started work on a fourth "Resident Evil" before the third installment, Resident Evil: Extinction, opening September 21, 2007, had even started shooting.

As the new synopsis for "Extinction" indicates, that is no longer the case. The plot summary for "Extinction" labels the film as "the third and final installment."

The key is to not take the films seriously, i enjoyed both so far simply for the action. God help me if i actually tried to focus on trivial things like "plot", "acting" or "intelligent writing". *shiver*

On a side note, the second RE film was filmed in my city, and blew up the theatre thats literally 2 minutes from my house. The scene where Nemesis first comes and kills all those STARS at the "Westwood theatre" but leaves the black guy. Yep. I took driving school lessons right beside it! wooo
