I've done Myspace and Blogger but I'm finding Multiply to be the best so far. It allows you to offer recipes, reviews on movies, music, video games and more as well as a place to sell whatever. They even allow music and video uploads as well as a ton of picture space. I love it.

My suggestion is to use solid background colors, seperate table colors and readble font colors. I hate scrolling down pages with transparent tables and not being able to read font because the background image is darker.
