View Full Version : DOOM The Movie & Teaser Trailer

Ok, Doom isn't *technically* a zombie movie, but anyone who's played the games knows that the shambling dead make their presence known quite regularly in the long-running franchise.

The first teaser is now online at IGN. Looks like an entertaining romp, but it reminds me quite sharply of the first Resident Evil movie (which isn't a good thing!). That said, the monsters - what glimpses you get of them - seem faithful to their Doom 3 game counterparts. The general vibe is not unlike that of Aliens in many respects (which was always an influence on the Doom series of games anyway).

See the teaser here (http://media.filmforce.ign.com/media/490/490104/vids_1.html)

It looks interesting, but why do movies these days feel the need to use that scream? The one that sound slike "eeeeyaaaaaaaaaaa" you hear it so much these days it is starting to be like the Wilhelm in the Star Wars movies.

Looks like a fun movie. I like pretty much every movie that The Rock has been in so this one should be no different. I'm not into the games so I'll be seeing this as an "unfamiliar" which is sometimes best. Looks like Aliens and Resident Evil rolled into one!

Looks cool. I heard that they had to take out the satanic references like you saw in the game. I may be one of the few but I liked Resident Evil 1, not the second though.

it would be so cool if they have the main character get transported to hell like in the game. But if it turns out them just shooting demon/zombie guys in space it would still be cool

I hate people who think they're offended by everything. Knobs.

Anyways, this movie looks alright. I'll see it, just because it's DOOM. I just hope the masked marine from the dos version makes a cameo *crosses fingers*

This looks like complete crap. And what a lame idea anyway; just beacuase the game is cool doesnt mean its a good idea to make a movie about it. :x

It looks about as good as you'd see on Showtime on a late Saturday night.

I havent quite formed an opinion on its quality, but right now its looking all right. I prefer the practical effects over CGI so thats cool. I would say that Universal does a pretty crappy job on cutting trailers. If something is called Doom, you think that the trailers main focus should be to build a sense of dread and dare I say it DOOM! Not just throw it out there like a kid on show and tell day.
Have a good day

DOOM THE MOVIE NEWS (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/index.php?Show=4502&Template=newsfull)

Talk of Universal's Doom adaptation went from bad to worse to sour a few months back, but after the San Diego Comic Con last month the movie had a revival in the hearts of fans- the word was good, very good. The buzz is building as the video game adaptation is heading to the big screen on October 21st and word on the street is "this could be cool!" Building on the momentum it was revealed today that Andrzej Bartkowiak's adaptation has been given an "R" rating for strong violence/gore and language! Hopefully the good news continues until I'm watching the end credits roll. Set countless years in the future and told in the hyper- kinetic, kamikaze style that made its gaming predecessor a global phenomenon, the science fiction action adventure Doom takes the viewer to the far corners of the galaxy with a fully-realized vision of a dark and disturbing future.

i rember the game on the playstation was a little bit more slow paced than the pc version, had less monsters and the sound effect and music were completly different. i loved both though..i still even play the original 2 on pc from time to time...i also loooved the new remake...i never played it on pc, but the xbox version rocked...talk about intense!...anyway if the new movie is anything like the remake, then its going to be a definate pants crapping scarefest!
lets hope for the best!

In July 2005, I saw the Rock represent the movie Doom at the Comic Con 2005 in San Diego at a press panel in Hall H.

Exclusive scene shown from Doom: Okay, this was pretty kick ass, but there's an entire action sequence where one of the main guys grabs his gun, and the camera zooms into a FIRST PERSON (FPS) camera view, with his gun still in sight. The camera moves through the corridors as monsters attack, getting their heads blown off as though you're playing the game. The camera doesn't cut during this sequence, to maintain the feeling that you're "in the game", only done with real actors and scenery. The pacing was great, and action packed.

Whether or not they'll keep it in the finished film, or cut it for the DVD, I don't know, but this scene alone makes me want to see Doom October 21st.

The new trailer that just hit the web is "okay". Can't say it gets me overly excited about the film though. Ironically, many are comparing it to Paul Anderon's Resident Evil when it would have been better if it mimicked Paul Anderson's Event Horizon (which, while flawed, at least had a pretty creepy atmosphere and wasn't scared to include Hell). The final shot of the Pinky Demon and the chainsaw looked decent enough - except the CGI was a bit too apparent. Oh, and I'm sick to death of metal soundtracks in trailers (and I generally like metal).

I think I have to agree that it looks like a mix of Alien & Resident. Read somewere in the thread that they have taken away the hell ideas and the satanic stuff. I think that is pretty rediculus, of what reason? like everyone seeing the movie will turn into satanic little demons? :loon:

But as always someone inside the Gov has to be an ***** and showoff with what he/she can do or licking some voters ass.. :puke:

Anway I think it can be a fun movie to watch IF one just watch it as a movie and not thining about the orginal story (from the games)

im surprised no one has mention this movie yet...it came out yesterday at the theather...

well, first off let me just say...the first half of the movie kind, well...sucked!

however, it picks up when the team realizes their buddys are coming back from the dead infested and turning into ultra demons...

from that point on, man it was a blast...they got a 10-15mins long First person shooter style camera angle that is flippin awesome. very true to the game in form.

i think its the coming back alive and shooting them in the head thing that kind of mimics the zombie gerne and was fun watchin.

anyways, enjoy it or hate it...i liked it ;)

Alright people. After work I went to see this movie

*SPOILERS* SPOILERS* SPOILERS*

To start about the horror aspect of it and the relationship with the game.. it doesnt really deliever. Although it has alot of parts in the game featured in the movie (which the FPS shot being.. amazing) it doesnt go along the same story. Plus the horror element is kind of "meh" becasue its not scary and lacks alot of the game atmosphere.

on the action side of things the movie is pretty decent. It has a few cheesy lines.. one of the worst/best was "semper fi mother****er!'

Violence.. the violence is typical hollywood action, limeted amounts of gore but delievers in the parts it has it.

So all and all its worth a rent and possibly a buy. If you dont want to see it, the FPS view is quite long and fantastic.. straight out of the game with scares and all.. but sadly is only limited in that one series of scenes.

Horror Movie 3/10
Action movie 7/10
Video game adaptation 6/10

The rock.... 7/10

DOOM kicks ass! I didn't care about the story, but I did like the two main characters, Reaper and the Rock, especially that kick butt fight scene at the end.

I don't give a damn about the story when I'm going to see an ACTION/GORE/Horror movie, I paid to see the action! This movie delivers! Plenty of gore, sick looking monsters and splatter.

The guns were shot often, and the pace was fast. It reminded me of Deep Rising and Resident Evil.

Overall, I was impressed how much ass Doom kicked in the delivery of the goods. The Hell with the story, it's DOOM!

Story: 6/10, It was functional.
Characters: 8/10 Good acting, nice character change in the Rock.
Action: 8/10
Gore: 9/10 for an R.
Horror: 7/10, the hiding around the corner kind.
Zombie Blasting: 8/10 Very cool, great headshots!
Recommended? Go see it if you like action, zombies, gore and a mindless plot.

OVERALL: 8/10 I couldn't believe how impressed I was. Very cool film if you don't care about story (or accuracy to the game). Afterall, are you there to see if the Rock will fall in love with the scientist, or if he'll blast the shit out of everything?

Final Thought: A lot of Doom fans complain about the story of the film sucking, but who plays Doom for the story? Is the movie like the Doom games? It has similarities, but changes things up a bit. If you like the action of the Doom games, check out the movie. Sure, it's a big Hollywood movie, but for a change, there's a focus on the action instead of all the BS dialog; though there is some BS dialog in it. After seeing it in theaters, I'd buy the DVD when it arrives.

dont waste your money on it. Once again a videgame movie sucked it sucked because it didnt follow the hell storyline and it has stupid fps view in the movie which is retarded. the rock is a great actor and he showed his true colors of suckatude which i dont know how thats possible. good acting for the most part but terrible dialogue and dry storyline.

When the rights to the game get into the Producers hands, they usually want to change things up just for the sake of changing it up. Most of the studios don't realize fans don't want to see a different take on the game, but want to see the game translated into a movie length, with all the original characters, storyline and settings. I don't know why they want to mess with that, but they do it consistently.

Fans get disappointed most when the film studio doesn't capture the original story and feel of the game. The closest game to film translation I can think of was Mortal Kombat 1, even though the movie was okay, the action was Kool, and that's what I paid to for when I saw it.

So, it was a lazy sunday afternoon and I was just trying to relax and decided to on-deman Doom since I had never seen it.

It wasn't too bad......The beginning was good, but I did not like the change in shooting styles at the end---part of it was scary, and another part irritating.

Swear my girlfriend wouldn't speak to me for a day after I'd been to see this movie. She has total apathy for Hollywood anymore (as do most people with sense)

It wasn't terrible, but it certainly wasn't great. The opening was real promising, from the Mars/Universal logo to the frantic start with all the science bods running and shitting themselves. The door/arm gag was pretty sick, which was nice. Step in the marines and the set-up was alright. I particularly liked Portman, though he was a little too Jack Nicholson at times.

When the monsters arrived, eh thats where it kinda fell apart. The zombies were sweet as mentioned (head-butting the glass till he incapacitated himself = awesome.)... but everything else kinda fell apart. The only thing more creaky than the monsters was Grimm's sister. Pretttty wooden.

Grimm himself was pretty bad ass, and I'm glad he got passed the torch and turned out to be the actual hero of the piece. The scene where Sarge is ordering them to kill everyone, even survivors, was powerful to the point I was pinching myself. Not in this movie, surely?

As for the first-person scenes... all I've got is HELL YEAH! Sorry, but I loved 'em.

Doom is the kind of adaption you go "where the hell did you get that from?"

What I love about the Doom story is the whole fact it's about Demons and hell yet looks like its about Aliens. And what do they make the films about? Aliens DNA virus.

No Demonic creatures, no possessed zombies, no hell as another dimension.

How cool would it have been if they had stuck to the idea of it just being a teleportation test that went wrong, Also having it set on the moon of Mars. The part when the 2nd moon just disappears is creepy.

Doom was meant to be an action movie. Yes there are zombies in there but wasnt good enough because it wasnt based around them. Only to demons taking over the Mars Station. And I think that the Rock didnt look that great in it. Him being a traitor and all.
