Ricky is a promising young scientist whose experimental formula regenerates dying cells. Ever since his parents died, Ricky's been trying hard to balance work while taking care of his younger brother Jermaine. When Jermaine is killed in a violent drive-by shooting, Ricky does the unthinkable to bring him back to life. His brother is now a blood-thirsty zombie wreaking carnage all over the hood. Now it's up to Ricky's colleague Scott and the boys in the hood to stop Jermaine from killing and turning the entire hood into zombies.

Nowadays it appears most low budget companies take more pride in their fancy, and often times misleading, box art over their actual films. Hope this one is different.

I looks like they just threw fake blood on your face and you're a zombie. Never seen Zombiez before but it sounds like that movie Vampiyaz. I may have to pass on this unless it's a rental.

Hey all. My name is Ed Quiroz. I am the writer/director of "Hood Of The Living Dead." This is the second user name I've had to make up, my original one wouldn't work. Anyway, I can assure you that it's NOTHING like "Zombiez." My film is just a fun, low-budget zombie flick. Nothing more, nothing less. There is nothing "hood" about it except for the fact that it takes place in Oakland. My brother and I wrote, directed and produced it for Image Entertainment. The name of the movie, along with the tagline on the box art are for marketing purposes only. We didn't have the budget to make the zombie movie of our dreams, but we did a good job with the budget and time that we DID have (don't mean to toot my own horn). One more thing, there's more than just blood thrown on people's faces to make them zombies. You can't really tell on the trailers on our website because the trailers themselves are really shitty quality. We're not trying to make it seem more that what it is: a low-budget horror film. But again, I can assure you that my film is a fun zombie flick. Please save judgement for when you see it. I think some of you will be pleasantly surprised. Just wanted to stop by and let it be known that our film is better than the title and tagline suggest. I'm off now, today is my only day off from filming. Right now, I'm in the middle of shooting our new horror movie. It's got good, gory nake up and a REALLY good horror-punk soundtrack. Can't wait to get started on editing, which will be towards the end of the month. Alright fellow horror fans, thank you for taking the time to read this, and hopefully for those of you who watch our film, you'll enjoy it.

It's not a comedy, so don't think that. It's "fun" as in, it's meant to be taken lightly and taken for what it is: a low-budget zombie movie made by independent filmmakers who are life-long horror fans. Basically, just throw your misconceptions out the window and just enjoy the movie. I don't know how else to describe it. Alright then, I gotta get back to shooting.

Not defending poorly made urban horror films or the people that make them but the Quiroz Brothers are the real deal in my opinion. I've never seen or heard anything of theirs that I felt was "trying" to be hip. I've been around long enough to see them go from hardcore latino gangbanger rap to making and distributing their own films and they've stayed consistent.

Haven't seen it though I read the Fango review. I'll probably grab it for my collection. I'm a fan of urban horror. Growing up in an urban lifestyle has allowed me to appreciate things on the urban and suburban side of life. Though most urban horror films are doo doo, I still find some of them quite fun.

I should prolly start by saying that I thoroughly enjoy low budget flicks because I know some people just dont dig em and need all that hollywood jazz... but anywho...
I'd say its a bit better than decent. Although usually when talking about low budget flicks, you come too expect the extreme level of blood and gore that only low budget flicks can pull off but this flick isnt really too heavy on the old blood and guts. But what it lacks ine gore I'd say it makes up for in the story line, I fount it very well written. Acting is pretty good... well, except for julio when he's freaking out when his friend is dying, that was so bad it was funny.
I could prolly go on more but I'm tired... so in closing, just go watch it (or buy it like I plan to).

That's true. It's seems that Fangoria hypes up a film months before it comes out talking about how it's the greatest thing ever and then when it hits theaters and falls flat on it's face, Fango bashes it.

That's promising because the trailer really didn't do the movie much justice. Hopefully I'll be able to rent this.

ok I rented it and watched it. First off this moive did try to have some heart and feelings in it, and it was really well done in that case. But when the zombies came, they were just.. lame. They hissed and sounded horrible. The Fx was ok and the acting was almost unbearable at times (mostly when the mexican gang leader is talking, which he does alot)
Things that I learned:
1) Gangsters wear Skater Clothing:loon:
2) You can see if a zombie is dead by checking its pulse
3) a shot to the heart takes them out sometimes, while a shotgun blast wont
all in all, the relationship between the 2 brothers was well done, until the kid died and was turned into a zombie. After that the movie wasnt all that entertaining.
2/10 for me

I never got the whole hissing zombie thing either. Also in the trailer one or two of the zombies kind of 'skip' towards thier prey instead of shamble or run. That was goofy looking. I'll still rent it at least... if I can anyway.

You know, i went into this movie expecting a steaming pile of http://allthingszombie.com/forums/images/smilies/poo-ani.gif, but you know, i really enjoyed it, Sure the acting was a bit stiff, and in some cases, laughable, but all in all i really enjoyed the movie.
I must say that Living across the bay from Oakland, I figured this would either be A. Hollywoods version of Oakland *Super Ghetto, death every few feet* or B. The Glossy Oakland.
I was quite happy to see, that this movie was very close to the oakland that i know, and...*how to put it* accept. The dialouge between the teenagers was very accurate to the way people talk around here, Which was very impressive, especially hearing someone say Frisco, thats such a bay area thing.
Alot of little things made it feel like the people who wrote this know the bay, Ripping on Castro Valley had me laughing my ass off, because Castro Valley is super rich white people. My white gothy ass hates being out there with a passion!
anyway, Cool indy movie, And Alameda got ripped on, so i gotta give it props!

Well, I stumbled across this for $10 and picked it up thinking "Hey, it can't be that bad" but you know what? It is that bad. Actually the story wasn't terrible and I was liking it until the 'zombies' showed up then it was all downhill.
While not as bad as 'Zombiez' zombies the 'Hood' zombies just acted like they had a spaz attack then threw fake blood on their faces then started going 'RAR, RARRR' and there you have it, the walking dead... so to speak. Too much inconsistancy with zombie behavior too with running and shuffling.
And just other things like a zombie that took a head shot by a shotgun at point blank range... didn't even leave a scratch but killed the zombie, just didn't work.
I then turned around and listed it on eBay. Sure, I'd recommend seeing the movie but it's not redeeming enough to warrent purchase. It's pretty bad when the zombies are the worst part of a zombie movie.

The 'regenerate' was Clorox... or that's what they said in the out-takes which were funny. And I love that Jimmy Neutron home chemistry set which was supposed to simulate a high-tech lab.
