Hi all,

I'm newish to Zombie films, I've seen the GAR trilogy and the remake of DOTD. I've been looking into some of the more Cult ones, like the Lucio Fulci ones. But they all seem to have about 20 names for the same film.

So, could someone help me out with this,

Is 'Zombi' the Fulci version of 'DOTD' or another name for 'Zombie Flesh Eaters' ?

Is 'City of the Living Dead' the same as 'Nightmare City' ?

Is 'Brain Dead' the same as 'Dead Alive' ? (if not are they both Peter Jackson films???)

Thanks for any help.

1. Zombi 2, I think this is what you are referring to, is the Fulci one that is also known as Zombie Flesh Eaters. It was released as Zombie here in the States. In Europe it was called Zombi 2 because GAR's DOTD was released as Zombi there. They wanted to capitalize on the success of DOTD.

2. City of the Living Dead is another name for Lucio Fulci's Gates of Hell. Nightmare City has an alternate title of City of the Walking Dead.

3. Brain Dead and Dead Alive are the same.

Hey thanks for that man,

I figured where I was gong wrong with the Zombi/DOTD thing. I was thinking of Dario Argento who made a different cut of DOTD not Fulci who made Zombi 2. Man thats confusing.

Any idea why they have so many zombie films have so many names??????

Many films were retitled for different markets to avoid confusion & to capitolize off of other films.

3. Brain Dead and Dead Alive are the same.

The alternate name for Dead Alive is Braindead.
Brain Dead(notice the space between the words) is a different film entirely starring Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton.

Dead Alive / Braindead = Zombies
Brain Dead = Twilight Zone type story about a brain scientist
