Sorry if this has been posted before!
My favorite character was Charlie. He comes across as being a very annoying character in the first few scenes of the film, but he grows on you and you actually start to give a sh*t about him. I liked his relationship with Riley as his self-designated protector.
My second favorite is Cholo, played by John Leguizamo. I thought Leguizamo was going to ruin the whole movie with his usual whiney self, but I was fortunately proven wrong. I liked his anti-hero persona, and his final demise.
**SPOILER**
I loved the part after Cholo is bitten by the zombie, and his partner offers to shoot him. But Cholo is real cool about it and says "I always wanted to see how the other side lived"

I'd probably go with Cholo. It doesn't hurt that I loved John Leguizamo in the first place. Funny guy. When reading the script, I though I wouldn't like the character, but Leguizamo really brought something to Cholo for me. Pillsbury was also badass too.

For a Canadian.

As far as the main cast goes, I liked Charlie the best.... Here's a character that had you didn't expect anything from, but you developed some sympathy for as the movie went along... I think GAR tried to accomplished that with Big Daddy, but character failed to deliver on that level.

charlie...
charlie all the frickin' way.
an excellent shot, a good soldier, and a loyal friend.
how could you not want that in the middle of a Class 4 (Brooks) outbreak?

Have to say Riley. Cause I could relate to him.

Cholo followed by Charlie.
Leguizamo was great. He's the way most of us would probably be in the same situation(Trying to make a few extra bucks or just getting the liquor and cigars for our own use).
Charlie was definitly the character evryone sympathizes with though. You just couldn't help but feel bad for him.
Kaufman would be my third choice. Dennis Hopper is always great at these kind of roles. He reminded me of his character in Waterworld, running the show.

Nah. I would be the one who'd find a car, grab the Italian whore and my best buds, then make for The Great White North.
Away from the things of re-animated man. That's my motto.

If I picked anybody, it'd be the Samoan guy. He was pretty funny.
Overall, none of the characters really made me like them all that much. I think because the rest of the film sort of dragged on the rich characterizations that GAR created. All of them were sort of Archetypal and so created a feeling of detachment in the viewer. That is not to say that I did not sympathize with them. (Well, the humans at least.) But, I cannot say that there was any one of them that I particularly cared for.
As for Big Daddy, I found it somewhat dissappointing that GAR would try so hard to make them sympathetic. It becomes comedic and ultimately pointless. Certainly there is a parallell that can be drawn between the zombies and ourselves, however, the execution in Land hindered the discovery of that parallell.

I disagree with that. We were given a reason to like Slack too.

The trouble with Big Daddy is he was all "white". No shades of grey. What i mean is, with Bub, we sympathised with him too, but it was still shocking to see him dig into that bucket of human remains. He was, after all, a zombie.
Big Daddy must have been on a zombie Jenny Craig diet or something.
Less roaring. More chomping.
And, as in the script, the bastard should have only had 1 arm.

Pillsbury.....just a shame he didn't get more to do with his role.

Greetings
I agree completely. If Big Daddy had only one arm (the other a stump with a bloody shredded tattered sleeve) I think I would have liked him better.
That would have been a zombie to root for.
I liked him, but I thought I would root for him as I did Bub. No such luck. Bub was lovable (as much as a zombie can be lovable)

I liked the Charlie and Riley dynamic. They made a good team, if a little bit of a cliche, but the relationship they had reminded me severely of Of Mice and Men, so I didn't mind the use.
Great stuff, though, using it in a zombie film really worked, and I really liked the two characters for their own reasons (and not just because they were the main characters of the movie)!
To think I had previously mentioned on the boards last year how great it'd be to inject some good American Steinbeck drama into zombie movies.
Thanks Romero.

i agree with most of you about Charlie being the best character from the film. my second would be Slack but that probably has more to do with Asia Argento playing the role than the character itself. Slack and Riley did have good chemistry together until the action started, at which point she basically became scenery in the background. i also liked kaufman. the character was funny as hell. i may have liked Cholo if someone else had played him. i'm not a fan of Leguizamo, however, he wasn't near as annoying as he usually is.

My favorite "Land of the Dead" character would have to be Slack (Asia Argento). She's hot, sexy as hell, can handle a gun (kind of) and is Dario Argento's daughter, what more could you ask for?

I could not remember one character name in this whole movie which kinda sucks. Until I read Pilsbury. That was the big guy right? He was my favorite.
Unfortunately I did not care about anyone in this movie. Maybe the slow guy that was burned.
Peter should have been one of the soldiers. (Ken Foree)

My favorite LOTD character? Everyone in the previews before the movie, 'cause they were more interesting in 2 minutes than anyone in Land was in 80 minutes. :)
