Welcome to the board! "The Dead Hate The Living" is a ton of fun. It has some great zombies in it and the Rob Zombie look alike mad scientist will have you laughing. It's a great low budget, b-movie film and it was obviously made by fans, for fans. The Beyond fans will get a kick out of the ending.

Thanks for the warm welcome... Oh, I loved The Beyond. Yeah, I'm trying to build up my zombie movie collection.

Keep in mind that TDHTL is a Full Moon film so the FX are a tad cheesy and the acting can be wonky in areas. If you're looking to build up your zombie collection, I'd have to say it's a great addition.

I couldn't stand this movie. It was too far below sub-par to be likable and the fake fire and the zombie transformation didn't help. Maybe if it was a comedy I would've laughed it off but I don't think that's the direction the movie was going.
The cheap-ass attempts at paying homage to great directors didn't save it much either. A close-up of a bumper sticker that says "Fulci Rules!" may receive a quick "cool!" but that's about it.
Rent it at least once but don't waste money on a purchase unless it's in the bargain bin for a few bucks and you feel that you must have an ultimately complete collection.

Slumlords entitled to his opinion but my suggestion would be to rent it at the very least and check it out. I was able to grab my for about $5 and was extremely happy with the price. There's no complex story, Oscar winning performances or state of the art FX, it's a b-movie. The zombies are extremely well crafted and the gore works well for what it is.

Unfortunately, my dad saw this movie with me, and refuses to watch any zombie movies with me, thinking they are all like this.
Basically, to me, it was like porn without the sex, as far as acting and plot coherency/depth is concerned.

Alot of people hate this movie and I've never even seen it, but I do think you should at least rent it to check it out. There's alot of movies that the majority hate which turn out to be excellent so check it out and then be sure to post your review here.

Wow, that was harsh of me.
I thought about the plot in my sleep, and I've come to the conclusion that its more intellectual then one might catch with their first glance. Yes, the movie is crappy, but that is the point. The film makers (in the movie) are making an equally crappy movie, and now they have to survive in one. Its interesting to see horror 'experts' do all the stupid stuff that they know they are not supposed to do (i.e Split up, go to investigate sounds in dark rooms, back themselves into corners, ect.).
Whenever a really good zombie movie comes out, people are always discussing how they will survive in that world. But if a really crappy zombie flick (ie, House of the Dead) is released, no body wants to have the same discussions about it.
I mean, how would you survive zombies that can jump 20 feet and know kung fu?

There are far worse zombie movies out there, trust me. I thought The Date Hate The Living was quite passable. At the least it has a coherent plot, decent looking zombies, and an almost "Beyondish" ending. It's one of those watch once and be mildly entertained but never watch again kinda movies.

I don't even know if I was mildly entertained. I did like the idea of a bunch of kids making a crappy horror movie in a really cool location, but it just plain sucked. I don't understand why it's so difficult for an actor to deliver his/her lines without sounding stupid, I mean, c'mon, people do it everyday. And the whole mad scientist guy? *sigh* It could have been really cool. I was sorely dissappointed. I rent this thing on one of the few nights that I have to myself to watch whatever I want and I get that shaft. I want my two dollars!

Well, we all know the 'fake' zombie movies (IE: House of the Dead) are in fact - well 'fake'. Real life zombie movies, or the non-fiction, ones (IE: '79 Dawn of the Dead), are in fact, easier to defend yourself against... the zombies that is. So if zombies did take over, people could defend against them... You guys follow???
But yeah, about The Dead Hate The Living... I'm going to rent it this weekend; I just want to see it because of the awesome title. I wonder if it's true. Anyone know?

There are two kinds of zombie movies... The kind where if zombies walked to Earth, it would be an accurate portrait of them. Then there is the kind of zombie movie where if they walked the Earth, it wouldn't be an accurate portrait of them, such as House of the Dead (jumping 20 feet in the air and what not).

LOL! I posted some of the same thoughts concerning this film in an old DHTL thread... I thought this film was your average Zombie film.
Here's some of the things I really bugged me about this film. (copied from a previous post)
Zombie portal coffin with a power cord.
Zombie leader who was formally a scientist, but now looks like Rob Zombie.
Zombies coming up through an indoor movie set cemetery.
Zombies fooled by Avon.
Zombies reminiscing.
TV sets with 1,000,000 volts of electricity.
Zombies running, shambling, looking like Tor Johnson with large gum lines, WTF?

That's one of the things that I disliked about this film... I've read many reviews about this film, and many people say they liked the film because of the homages in it... I can't see how a bunch of obvious plugs, form different Zombie movies, can make or break a film.

I don't think that was the point of the "plugs". I highly doubt anybody making this movie for Full Moon walked around their homes making mental notes on where to put their Oscars for this.

Yeah, but look how effective it was.... Many people who reviewed this film can't resist mentioning all the homages in this film... I think it was a cheap thick to capture a little favoritism, and it worked.

Yeah, it couldn't have possibly have been nothing more than clumsy homages in a poorly made b-movie, it must have been a sly ploy to garner favor lol.

You'd be surprised at what lengths producers will go to get their crap noticed. :poo:

No, I wouldn't. I deal with people in the film industry all the time. In the case of TDHTL though, I believe the film was made by horror fans for horror fans and those homages, though clumsy and heavy-handed, were sincere. I suppose it's a moot point though. Some like the film and some don't.

I rented it once and I didn't really like it, but you might so you might as well try. On a side note when I had it I threw up on the box, that's how bad it was. Well actually I was sick and... you know how things happen.
It was pretty cool until the ending, where they had that fake CG fire =P
